Des Moines, IA (June 21, 2018) – It’s been a rough week for Josh Schneiderman, as he’s been dealing with a virus that has left him sick in bed (though he noted that decision was not his own, but his wife Brittany’s), but “The Professor” is looking forward to two big nights of racing this weekend! After another Saturday of making up for some early letdowns with a strong A-main run, the Deuce Motorsports team will be at Farley Speedway with the World of Outlaws on Friday, before heading to Knoxville for the Mid-Season Championship on Saturday.
Last Saturday at the Knoxville Raceway took Josh and the Deuce Motorsports team by surprise, as the track was not what they would have been expecting after a day of high heat and sun. “It was definitely an odd night,” said Josh. “The track was in great shape and pretty racy for how hot and sunny it had been throughout the day.”
Qualifying has been much like the movie Groundhog Day for Schneiderman and the team this year, as it seems whatever they try, they end up right in the same spot. “We did a bit better in qualifying this week,” said Josh. “However, we keep ending up in the range of 10th to 15th, which leaves us chasing the rest of the night.”
While qualifying has been a point of frustration for the team, it looks as if some help is coming in a newly freshened motor from engine-builder Manny Rockhold. “We have a fresh bullet for this week that will hopefully help us out in qualifying,” said Josh. “We sent it to Manny over the offseason to get freshened up and it will be nice to get it in the car and see what it can do.”
Ending time trials in 11th left Schneiderman starting on the inside second row of his heat, which has proven to be a difficult spot. “Starting 3rd or 5th in the heat has been pretty tough this year,” said Josh. “Davey (Heskin) was able to get the jump on us from the outside and we had a pretty good battle going with him for third, but the car got pretty tight behind him and that allowed (Kerry) Madsen to get around us too.”
As has become the ongoing storyline for the Deuce Motorsports team, some early night struggles led to a strong charge through the field in the A-main. “We were able to make our way into the top ten throughout the feature and when the race ended we were within striking distance of the next three positions,” said Josh. “It feels good that we continue to be one of the better cars on the track when it comes to the A; we just need to put ourselves in a better position early, so we don’t have to roll off 15th like we did Saturday.”
The night ended with Schneiderman in the ninth spot, tying for the hard charger spot in the A-main. Though not quite feeling 100% physically, Josh plans to take on the World of Outlaws at Farley Speedway Friday night. “We’re definitely keeping an eye on the weather, but hopefully we’ll get to run Farley with the Outlaws tomorrow,” said Josh. “It’s been about ten years since I’ve raced there, and that was in a 360, so hopefully the weather holds off and we can get on the track in the 410.”
The Deuce Motorsports team will then be back on the track this Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway for Mid-Season Championship night. “The Professor” currently has the Universal Therapy Group car sitting eighth in the 410 point standings and will be looking to claw his way nearer to the top five as they enter the second half of the season!
