Eighteen drivers broke Zach Chappell's year old track record in time trials on a perfect track for racing. Josh Wise (35th car out to time) led the way, circling the half-mile in 18.698 seconds, nearly .8 under the old mark. His teammate Jay Drake (3rd car out) was second quick, followed by Jon Stanbrough (1st), Damion Gardner (2nd), Mat Neely (34th), Tony Stewart (8th), Jac Haudenschild (9th), Cory Kruseman (6th), Jesse Hockett (30th) and Levi Jones (12th). Mitch Wissmiller flipped in hot laps, ending his night. Sean Walden had motor problems and failed to get a time in.
Heat one (started): 1. Justin Marvel 47 (2) 2. Wise 20 (6) 3. Hockett 75 (4) 4. Neely 6 (5) 5. Casey Shuman 6s (1) / 6. Bud Kaeding 29BK (7) 7. Kevin Huntley 21R (8) 8. Ryan Anderson 71R (1) 9. Danny Jennings 61J (9) 10. Mike Martin 57 (10) DNS - Mitch Wissmiller 7x
Shuman grabbed an early lead from the pole in the 8 lapper, but Marvel took command on lap two. Wise moved up well dueling with Hockett for a couple of laps. Kaeding worked to get around Shuman the last two circuits, but couldn't grab the final transfer. Heat winners were awarded a Sander front end assembly and a Butlerbuilt steering wheel as well as other goodies.
Heat two (started): 1. Jones 2B (4) 2. Johnny Herrera 45x (2) 3. Dickie Gaines 21x (1) 4. Stewart 20s (5) 5. Terry Pletch 29P (8) / 6. Ryan Jamison 51J (9) 7. Robert Bell 71B (10) 8. Drake 21 (6) 9. Travis Rilat 29 (3) 10. Mike Miller 82 (7)
Herrera shot out to the lead with Gaines in tow. A battle shaped up for the final transfer between the first UC winner, Rilat, and Stewart, who was on the outside looking in to a transfer. Rilat appeared to have something snap in the rear-end on lap four. The result was a wicked snaproll in turn one. He was uninjured, but done for the night. The incident collected Miller, who also went pitside. Now Herrera's lead was over Jones, Drake, Gaines and Stewart, who now held the final transfer. A nozzle came loose on the Drake machine when green replaced yellow on lap six, and he took it to the pits. On lap seven, Jones made his move to take the heat win.
Heat three (started): 1. Bill Rose 10T (3) 2. Charles Davis Jr. 21c (7) 3. Dave Darland 11 (4) 4. Zach Chappell 50z (2) 5. Stanbrough 10 (6) / 6. Haudenschild 83JR (5) 7. Mike Woodruff 17 (1) 8. John Scott 83 (8) 9. Luke Cranston 20c (9) 10. Dave Anderson 53 (10)
Woodruff took an early advantage, but when he bicycled hard into one on lap two, Rose took command and won going away. Davis made an outstanding charge from out of the heat invert to second. Stanbrough and Haudenschild battled hard for the final transfer, with Stanbrough taking the spot with two to go.
Heat four (started): 1. Critter Malone 7 (3) 2. Kruseman 67 (5) 3. Matt Westfall 54 (2) 4. Gardner 50 (6) 5. Darren Hagen 71 (4) / 6. Brad Sweet 1 (7) 7. Tyler Spath 35 (9) 8. Chris Urish 77u (8) 9. Jake Peters 57x (1) 10. Sean Walden 14w (10)
Peters went straight to the wall in turn one and smacked it with his 360 powered mount. He kept it going, but in the back. Malone went by Westfall to grab the early lead. On lap three, Walden got into the wall and flipped hard. He was uninjured, but done for the night. Malone led Kruseman, Westfall, Gardner and Hagen back to green flag racing. Gardner and Hagen had the best battle for position on the track, with Hagen coming just short of repassing Gardner at the line for fourth.
Dash (started): 1. Jones (1) 2. Kruseman (3) 3. Hockett (2) 4. Gardner (6) 5. Stanbrough (7) 6. Stewart (4) 7. Wise (8) 8. Neely (5)
Jones led flag to flag in dominating fashion, earning a Weld wheel. The six lapper was used to determine starting spots in the A. Hockett and Gardner's battle for third was the best of the dash.
B main (started): 1. Drake (1) 2. Haudenschild (2) 3. Kaeding (6) 4. R. Anderson (3) / 5. Sweet (8) 6. Peters (5) 7. Scott (10) 8. Huntley (9) 9. Woodruff (4) 10. Urish (11) 11. Miller (7) 12. Jamison (13) 13. Spath (15) 14. Martin (16) 15. D. Anderson (18) 16. Bell (17) 17. Cranston (14) 18. Jennings (12) DNS - Walden, Rilat, Wissmiller
Drake led the distance with Haud in tow in the 12 lapper. The only stoppage came on lap three for D. Anderson who stopped in turn four. While the top three did a masterful job in lapped traffic, the battle heated up late for the final transfer. R. Anderson got late pressure from a charging Sweet, who had outdueled Peters. Sweet's bid was all for naught and R. Anderson went on to the A.
A main (started): 1. Jones (1) 2. Kruseman (2) 3. Gardner (4) 4. Herrera (17) 5. Haudenschild (10) 6. Stanbrough (5) 7. Drake (9) 8. Marvel (16) 9. Kaeding (22) 10. Westfall (19) 11. Neely (8) 12. Wise (7) 13. Gaines (21) 14. Pletch (24) 15. Rose (14) 16. Malone (15) 17. Shuman (20) 18. Hagen (12) 19. Hockett (3) 20. Davis (23) 21. R. Anderson (13) 22. Stewart (6) 23. Chappell (18) 24. Darland (11)
Jones shot out to an early advantage with Gardner in tow in the 30 lapper for $30,000. Levi extended his lead as charges were being put on by defending champion Gaines, and Herrera. Darland and Chappell were early race casualties as was Stewart, who pulled off on lap 16. Kaeding came to a stop on lap 23. Jones had built a 7.5 second lead and now had three lapped cars between he and Gardner. Stanbrough ran third, ahead of Kruseman, Drake and Hockett. On lap 25, Gaines was trying to move by Hockett on the low side for sixth, when the two made contact. The result was a stop by Hockett and the second and last caution of the event. Now Jones' lead was over Gardner, Kruseman, a surging Herrera and Haudenschild. Jones pulled away the last five laps. Kruseman appeared to go undetected in moving by two lapped cars before the cone on the restart, and beat Gardner to the line for second. Gaines was making a move for fourth on the final circuit, when he made contact with Herrera and spun harmlessly towards the infield. Herrera and and Kaeding shared hard-charger honors moving forward 13 spots. It was arguably the best racing of the week so far, with the track in great condition.
