Clint Garner (5th car out to time) set the standard in time trials at 15.225 seconds. Colin Northway (8th car out) was second quick, followed by Brian Brown (16th), Jaymie Moyle (1st), Justin Henderson (14th), Jon Agan (4th), Bob Weuve (3rd), Billy Alley (29th), Ricky Logan (20th) and Ian Madsen (2nd). Greg Jones failed to get a time in.

Walraven beat K. Madsen to turn one and held on to the lead for the distance of the 8 lapper. Garner and Reinke both did well to move up. Barbara, a crew member of K. Madsen's retired after time trials.

Heat two (started): 1. Lynton Jeffrey 4AU (1) 2. Alley 22 (4) 3. Northway 60 (6) 4. Brent Antill 1 (2) 5. Henderson D11 (5) 6. Skip Jackson 2 (3) / 7. Ryan Anderson 71R (7) 8. Chad Meyer 1w (8) 9. Jay Landolt 21s (9) DNS - John VanDenBerg 7x, Greg Jones 35

Jeffrey led flag to flag despite challenges from a persistent Alley.

Heat three (started): 1. Wayne Johnson 14AJ (3) 2. Brown 21 (6) 3. Logan 10 (4) 4. Mark Dobmeier 13 (8) 5. Agan 4 (5) 6. Calvin Landis 70 (7) / 7. Mike Moore (9) 8. Robert Bell 71 (10) 9. Matt Moro (1) 10. Don Droud Jr. 17G (2)

Droud went up in smoke and coasted to a stop on the backstretch when the green flag flew. He was done for the night. Moro came to a stop on lap two and also retired. Johnson grabbed the early lead, performing a slider on Logan, who narrowly avoided disaster. Dobmeier was impressive in his charge.

B main (started): 1. Anderson (2) 2. Moro (3) 3. Weuve (1) 4. St. Arnold (5) 5. Gharst (7) 6. Landolt (6) / 7. Houseman (8) 8. Jones (10) 9. Moore (9) 10. Bell (11) 11. Meyer (6) DNS - Droud, Barbara

Anderson led flag to flag. Meyer's powerplant exploded on lap five while running in the final transfer spot, and Moore spun in the fluid from it. Moore would restart at the tail. Landolt was the beneficiary, grabbing the final transfer in sixth.

A main (started): 1. Alley (2) 2. Logan (1) 3. Henderson (4) 4. Johnson (11) 5. Garner (8) 6. Dobmeier (18) 7. Jackson (10) 8. Madsen (12) 9. Moyle (5) 10. Agan (3) 11. Gharst (23) 12. Jeffrey (15) 13. Reinke (16) 14. Northway (7) 15. Landis (17) 16. Walraven (14) 17. Brown (6) 18. Moro (20) 19. Antill (13) 20. Weuve (21) 21. Landolt (24) 22. I. Madsen (9) 23. Anderson (19) 24. St. Arnold (22)

Alley jumped out to an early lead in the 25 lapper, while a thin strip of rubber developed six feet below the cushion. He had put six lapped cars between himself and Logan by lap nine, when Anderson got sideways and tipped over. Those lapped machines disappeared on the restart, with Alley ahead of Logan, Brown, Henderson and Garner. Rubber started laying on the bottom side and the parade began. Nonetheless, Alley showed his strength in pulling away from Brown who had slid into second on the restart. Brown's good run came to an end when his right rear tire flattened on lap 16. He would restart at the tail, but could only work his way up to 17th at the finish. The flat cost him his third place standing in the points, handing that to Logan. Alley led the rest of the way in dominating fashion to earn his first career Knoxville tally, and $4000. Madsen admitted, "this was the 'pussiest' I've driven here." His steady finish secured him his first Knoxville track championship. Dobmeier and Gharst shared hard-charger honors, moving forward 12 spots.

B main (started): 1. Zomer (3) 2. S. Alexander (5) 3. Meyer (7) 4. Ball 53 (11) / 5. Heskin (6) 6. Selvage (8) 7. Edwards (12) 8. Mason (2) 9. Reynolds (10) 10. Kubli (9) 11. Crabb (13) 12. Houseman Jr. (1) 13. Houseman (4) DNS - Lance

Ball took over the Beaver 53 from Lance. To add to the confusion, Travis Cram was going to drive the machine but had a scheduling conflict. Zomer ducked under the pole-sitter, Houseman Jr., for the early lead. Houseman Jr. spun on lap two, bringing the first of four stoppages. On the restart, Meyer, running fourth, performed a slidejob on the third place machine of Mason. Mason slammed on the brakes and spun in front of the field, collecting Houseman. Both restarted at the tail. Zomer led S. Alexander, Meyer, Heskin and Selvage back to green flag racing. That order stayed the same through a lap three Ball spin, and until Houseman Jr. slowed to a stop on lap 6 of 10. With four laps to go on the restart, Selvage slid in front of Heskin for the final transfer. Now Ball asserted himself and started picking off cars. He pulled into sixth when the white flag flew. Heskin was moving by Selvage as the three battled for the final transfer. Ball move around Selvage and set his sights on Heskin. A slidejob was in order, and the two made contact in turn four. Ball held steady and held onto the spot at the stripe in the 53.

Ideus (15) 13. Thorson (6) 14. Meyer (19) 15. Crall (16) 16. M. Alexander (13) 17. Maeschen (5) 18. D. Hall (12) 19. Walsh (7) 20. Leavitt (11)

Phillips jumped out to an early advantage in the 20 lapper. Walsh spun on lap two, collecting Leavitt. Both were done. Phillips looked solid until a lap seven flip by Maeschen. He led Mather, Kearney, Anderson and a surging Higday back to the green flag. Mather slid under to take the lead immediately, and began to pull away. Higday moved by both Anderson and Kearney as the leaders worked lapped traffic. Phillips' machine began to smoke. ON lap 19, Crall came to a stop in turn three, bringing out another caution. Now Mather led Phillips, Higday, Kearney and Anderson back to the cone. Mather was able to pull away for his third win of the year and his career at Knoxville. Higday slid by Phillips for the runner-up spot. Ball earned hard-charger honors, moving forward 13 positions.
