(Bill W) September 20, 2016 – The TKS Motorsports #2KS team and Craig Dollansky wrapped up a busy weekend with the World of Outlaws with a 13th place finish at US36 Raceway in Cameron, Missouri. Considering the heavy track conditions, putting the car back in the trailer in one piece may have been the biggest victory. The team has this weekend off before wrapping up 2016 at the Queen’s Royale near Farmington, Missouri at the St. Francois County Raceway.
The WoO raced with the National Sprint League at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa last Friday and Cameron on Saturday. “With all the rain they had up there in Spencer…and there had been a lot of rain in Cameron too…the track conditions just weren’t the most ideal,” says TKS Motorsports owner and crew chief, Troy Renfro. “It wasn’t their fault at all though.”
The WoO had their share of problems with transponders. “We drew a late number, and they had to requalify some cars,” says Troy. “They were having trouble with their timing process, and we ended up on the short end of the stick. It was what we were dealt, so we moved on.”
After timing in 17th quick and finishing fifth in his heat, Craig started the feature in row nine. “Craig was trying to make something happen there in the feature,” says Troy. “He hit the wall coming off of four, and that blew the right rear tire. Being past the halfway point, we didn’t have time to change it.”
The bullring near Cameron awaited Saturday. Craig timed in 11th qucik and finished fourth in the heat. That put him inside row six for the feature. “There was so much rain, and it was heavy and rough,” says Troy. “I can’t believe no one crashed and tore things up. We just kind of hung on really. I think we were a tenth place car, but we were out there racing and banging wheels. We about crashed a couple of times and ended up thirteenth. All in all, we were able to get the car back to the trailer in one piece. We’ll move on from there and get ready for Farmington.”
The two-night Queen’s Royale on September 30 and October 1 will put an end to both the team’s and the NSL’s schedule. “Points-wise we’re in a position where we’d like to hang on to second,” says Troy. “First is really beyond our reach at this point, but it would be a good end to the season nailing down second with the NSL.”
