Junior Fan Club and Scout Night, presented by Nebraska Lottery and Colby Ridge at Eagle Raceway Saturday saw clear skies and a pit full of race teams. All of the young fans in attendance got to take a turn around the high banks in real race cars.
All preliminary events were held without serious incidents.
Greg Bolte in the 00, Tim Fricke’s 62, the 73 of Lee Bowes and Toby Chapman’s 7KX led the Racesaver IMCA Sprint Car A Feature’s first circuit. Chapman passed Bowes on lap 2. Lap 4 saw Mike Johnston’s 14J take over the fourth spot. Chapman moved to second on lap 7 as Tyler Drueke put the 12 into third and Fricke held fourth. Fricke lost his place to the 51 of Mike Boston on lap 9. Bolte slowed the next time around for a caution period. That made the top 4 Chapman, Drueke, Boston and Johnston. Johnston looped his sprinter in turn 2 on the restart, putting Fricke back into fourth. Drueke dove low in turn 1 on the restart while Chapman ran the cushion, allowing Drueke to take the lead as Adam Gullion moved to fourth in the 91BC. Lap 12 saw another position change in the top 4 as Boston passed Chapman for second. The final top 4 were Drueke, Boston, Chapman and the 20P of Shon Pointer who took fourth in the waning laps.
Drueke said “When the cushion is on the fence, that’s my bread and butter! That’s when the experienced drivers take over. I saw the dirt piled up at the top, so we made the car a little freer for the feature so that I could roll the top. We had engine problems last week, and starting tonight. We changed the mag, the wires, the plugs; heck, we changed EVERYTHING. But, we finally got it to where it ran great. I could hit the bottom, or run the top; it was awesome”. Drueke’s sponsors include Drueke Trucking and Ranch, Zoz Farms, Jeffrey’s Trucking, Reid’s Farmacy and Agri-Builders.
Next week is High Banks Thunder, presented by Kaplan University and Rotella’s. Front gates open at 5:15 with hot laps starting at 5:30 and racing at 6:30. Adult admission is just $10, youths 6-12 are only $5 and children 5 and under are free.
Pit gates open at 4:00 with pit passes costing $25.
