Bryan Hulbert - ELDON, Mo. (May 30, 2018) Joining with the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps this past weekend for the Inaugural Spring 360 Nationals at Lake Ozark Speedway, Wayne Johnson rolled through the weekend with a pair of top-five finishes.
"We had a good weekend. Saturday's track was better than Friday where we could move around and get through there. It widened out there towards the end on Friday and that's when we started moving forward, but overall, we were good."
In the redraw for Friday's A-Feature, the pull put the No. 2c starting eighth with a final result of fifth. Drawing the same starting spot the following night, Wayne was able to advance much quicker with Seth Bergman in his sights.
"Like I said, the track never got super wide on Friday, but again there at the end, we were able to move around. Saturday, it got slick top to bottom and wide where you could run just about everywhere. I thought I had something for Bergman there with about 10 or 15 to go," explained Wayne.
"I knew I was catching him, and I moved the wing back on a caution and ended up moving it back too far and after that, I was so dang tight. I was just trying to protect the line and keep Brian Bell from getting by me. I was trying to get the wing forward, but I was to busy wheeling the car and trying to block Bell that Seth just got away from me."
Bringing his top-five total to 14 on the season in 28 events contested, the plan for Wayne and the TwoC Racing team is an off weekend as they gear up for the Lucas Oil ASCS Speedweek.
"It's about to get busy for us, so we're going over everything and getting ready. Once we get through Speedweek, we head to Washington, so we have to be loaded and ready for that."
