The team had high hopes heading into Lawton Speedway in Oklahoma a week ago.  “We weren’t any good,” says Wayne.  “Anything that could have went wrong did.  That kind of simplifies that night at Lawton.  We drew in the back of everything, the track wasn’t to our liking, we got run over in the B, and we made some wrong decisions on the racetrack.”

At Creek County on Thursday, Wayne went from fifth to third in his heat, and fourth to second in his Qualifier.  That gave him enough points to start fifth in the feature.  “We were able to get up to fourth,” he says.  “We couldn’t really do anything with the leaders.  Fourth was really all we had at Creek.”

It was on to Sedalia and the Missouri State Fair Speedway Friday.  “We drew the back of the heat again (eighth),” says Wayne.  “We were able to get up to fifth.  We started twelfth in the feature.  We weren’t very good there and we ended up ninth.”

Speedweek concluded at Lucas Oil Speedway near Wheatland, Missouri.  After going from fourth to third in his heat and winning the Qualifier, Wayne would start seventh in the feature.  “We were up to fourth or fifth there,” he says.  “The first caution came out, and on the restart, I jumped the curb.  I hit the fence and about knocked it down.  We had to go to the back there, and we worked our way back up to eleventh.”

Wayne is hoping to leave his bad luck in the Midwest.  “We just really had no luck during Speedweek,” he admits.  “Getting to the Pacific Northwest will give us kind of a fresh start here.  We know these tracks, and we know we’ll have some good local competition up here too.  Last year, we were looking at a top five finish at the Dirt Cup until we turned over.  We’re looking to turn that around this weekend.”
