Spencer Bayston (9th car out to time) led 17 drivers under the old one-lap track record set by Zach Chappell in May of 2007 (11.705).  Spencer’s new track record on the ¼-mile oval stands at 11.351.  Donny Schatz (6th car out) was second quick, followed by Jacob Allen (18th), Jason Johnson (11th), Daryn Pittman (10th), Logan Schuchart (2nd), David Gravel (3rd), Cory Eliason (8th) and Kerry Madsen (26th).  Paul Nienhiser had issues and failed to get a time in.  The crowd was near capacity, and kept filing in through the heat races.  Kevin Ulmer, making his first ever 410 start, scratched after hot laps.

10-lap heats lined heads-up took the top six to the feature.  The top two locked into the Dash.  J. Johnson led the distance.  The best battle was Jackson action…Gravel and K. Madsen dueling for second.  Brown exited early with mechanical issues that necessitated an engine change..

Heat two (started): 1. Pittman 9 (2) 2. Schatz 15 (1) 3. Shane Stewart 2 (3) 4. Sheldon Haudenschild 17 (6) 5. Jason Sides 7s (4) 6. Dane Lorenc 00 (8) / 7. Kraig Kinser 11K (5) 8. Brent Marks 19 (7) DNS – Kevin Ulmer 20K

A caution before a lap could be completed saw Kinser and Stewart get together in turn four and collect Sides.  Marks was also caught up and got the worst of it, having to go pitside.  Pittman coasted, pulling away to win followed by Schatz.  Stewart would get by Haudenschild in a good race for third.

Heat three (started): 1. Allen 1a (1) 2. Schuchart 1s (2) 3. Brad Sweet 49 (7) 4. Ian Madsen 18 (4) 5. Terry McCarl 24 (6) 6. Eliason 83 (3) / 7. Clyde Knipp 13 (5) 8. Greg Wilson w20 (8) 9. Paul Nienhiser 9x (9)

Schuchart led his teammate and uncle, Allen, early on.  Sweet was on the move from row four and took fourth from Eliason on lap two.  Nienhiser’s issues from time trials continued and he came to a stop with eight to go.  Schuchart would choose the inside line on the restart, but Allen would shoot by on the outside an dlead the rest of the way.  Sweet grabbed third on the restart and T. McCarl moved into the top five.

Dash (started): 1. Allen (1) 2. Schuchart (2) 3. Schatz (4) 4. Gravel (3) 5. Pittman (6) 6. Johnson (5)

The Shark Racing teammates in the front row put on a show, with Schuchart taking several sliders at Allen for the lead.  He would fall into second, with Schatz trailing in third.  The 8-lapper determined the top six starting spots in the feature.

B main (started): 1. Brown (3) 2. Marks (4) 3. Kinser (1) 4. Wilson (6) 5. Knipp (2) 6. A. McCarl (5) / 7. Bales (7) DNS – Nienhiser, Ulmer

Marks led Kinser and Knipp early in the 12-lapper that would turn into a race of attrition.  Brown grabbed third from Knipp on lap two and second from Kinser on lap four.  A. McCarl shot under Knipp for fourth on lap five.  Bales would lose his left rear tire and flip at the halfway point.  He was uninjured.  Now the remaining six would transfer, but were racing for position.  Marks elected to start outside on the restart, and Brown shot under for the lead.  Knipp moved back into fourth before A. McCarl would get over the inside berm in turn two and spin.  He exited, but would get the last transfer.

The 40-lapper saw Eliason penalized from 16th for being late to staging.  Allen led Schuchart and Schatz early.  Five laps in, Schatz worked under Schuchart for second.  Two laps later, he cruised through the middle of three and four to take the lead from Allen.  Schuchart got by Allen for second on lap 14, and reeled in Schatz in traffic.  At the midway point, Gravel moved by Allen for third.  Bayston really got going mid-race on the cushion.  He was by Allen for fourth on lap 24.  Two laps later, Brown spun over the cushion.  Meanwhile, a fifth running Pittman pulled off the track with a flat right rear.  He would restart and climb to a seventh place finish.  The restart for Brown, saw Schatz’s 3.1 second lead gone, ahead of Gravel, Schuchart, Bayston and Allen.  Schatz pulled away on the restart.  K. Madsen had a great run, going from eighth to fifth.  Another caution came 28 laps in when Bayston was trying to pass Schuchart when contact came in turn three, breaking his front end.  Schuchart’s car was obviously affected as well, the rest of the way. Schatz would lead Gravel the rest of the way home.  K. Madsen would finish third.  Behind them some great racing saw Stewart move up to fourth, ahead of Johnson, Sweet, Pittman and Haudenschild.  The win was worth $10,000 for Schatz.
