(Bill W) October 21, 2017 – Josh Schneiderman and the Deuce Motorsports #49 team made a rare appearance in the MOWA finale weekend at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois last weekend. On Friday night, the West Burlington, Iowa driver came from the fourth row, to challenge for the lead. He would eventually checker third. On Saturday, a tangle sent Josh to the back saw him come back through the field and vie for a top ten finish.
Things started well on Friday with a heat race win. “The car was really good in the heat race,” says Josh. “We were able to get out there and win that. It was a good start to the night.”
That meant starting the feature inside row four. “We had a nice night on Friday,” says Josh. “I really thought we had a shot at a win there. We were able to get up to second and the caution came out late. (Jake) Blackhurst was out front and he was good. We tried to make something happen running second, going for the lead and we were passed there. We were right there with three to go. I was able to get underneath him in three and four, but the cushion was the place to be. We ended up third.”
The finish gave Josh a shot of confidence. “It was cool, because we don’t get to many short tracks with the 410,” he says. “MOWA brings quality cars, so it was nice to be competitive and running up front with them at one of their home tracks.”
A format change for Saturday’s finale saw time trials run. “We ended up 13th quick,” says Josh. "We went out really early. The track actually came in after we were out there, but it was what it was. We’re still learning some of the short track games.”
Josh’s time meant he would start the main event inside row seven. “We were nice, but we were buried back there,” he says. “They reworked the track beforehand, and essentially, it was a one-lane track until the last five laps. It was tilled from the middle-up and it made it tough to pass. We had a restart and two cars tangled on the backstretch. I slowed down and someone ran us over. It was short track racing. It didn’t hurt anything, but we had to restart at the tail. It was close racing. It was bumper to bumper from second to tenth. It was pretty cool. We weren’t bad, there was just nowhere to go. We were good to get back to eleventh.”
