(Bill W) August 22, 2017 – Mark Dobmeier and the Jimco Racing/Polaris #13 team put themselves behind the 8-ball with the World of Outlaws last Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. The rebounded, however, with a run from 21st to sixth in the feature. The Grand Forks driver will return to River Cities this Friday night.
The team had high hopes heading into the night. The all-time feature winner at River Cities has yet to beat the World of Outlaws at his home track. “We kind of got caught with our pants down at the end of the day,” says Mark. “Some dirt had been added to the track since we were there a few weeks ago. We were expecting a typical Grand Forks track, but we got a track that held the moisture really well. It made for a racy surface, we just weren’t set up for it early in the night and we were way too tight.”
The result was 12th quick for Mark in his group. The heat didn’t go much better. “We changed a few things for the heat and we were still off,” he says. “We backed up a spot to eighth. We corrected things with the car and it was spectacular the rest of the night. We were able to start third in the B and won it.”
The charge was on from 21st to sixth in the main event. “It was fun driving through all those cars towards the front, but it would be a lot easier if a guy just qualified well and started towards the front!” says Mark. “It was a good fun race. It was a blast, but it would have been nice to have started up front. A sixth-place finish is good for where we started though, and we couldn’t complain. We’re happy any time we finish in the top ten with the Outlaws.”
Minnesota’s Jackson Motorplex rained out on Saturday, so the team hung with the Outlaws at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo. “The track was extremely heavy,” says Mark. “I think we had three sets of hot laps to get it run in. We ended up qualifying 14th quick and running sixth in the heat.”
That set Mark up inside row nine for the feature. “It was kind of one-lane, it was just so heavy,” he says. “You couldn’t really free your car up enough. We got going in the feature from 17th. We moved up a couple of spots, and a chunk of mud came up and knocked the car out of gear. I just pulled off and that was the weekend.”
