Randy Anderson (2nd car out to time) set quick time over the field with a time of 15.152 seconds on the half-mile. Calvin Landis (4th car out) was second quick, followed by Dusty Zomer (18th), Clint Garner (3rd), Davey Heskin (8th), Dennis Moore Jr. (15th), Billy Alley (13th), Brent Antill (7th), Jack Potter (1st) and Brian Brown (26th). Those with an early time definitely benefited as the track slicked off in a hurry.
Heat one (started): 1. Ricky Logan 10 (1) 2. Alley 55 (4) 3. Brown 21 (3) 4. Ra. Anderson 81 (6) 5. Jack Dover 53 (7) 6. Rager Phillips 9 (8) / 7. Garner 40 (5) 8. Kaley Gharst 3 (2) 9. Mike Moore 69 (9)
Gharst ended up starting at the rear. By lap three of the 8 lapper he stopped bringing a caution. Logan led the distance, while Dover did well to transfer to the A after missing the invert. Phillips also did well, benefiting partially from Gharst's starting spot. Dover worked the bottom of the track to perfection and dueled back and forth with Ra. Anderson.
Heat two (started): 1. Mark Dobmeier 13L (1) 2. Bronson Maeschen 96 (3) 3. Landis 70 (6) 4. Seth Brahmer 13 (2) 5. Antill 1 (4) 6. Tony Shilling 47T (8) / 7. Heskin 56 (5) 8. John Lambertz 12L (9) 9. Bob Weuve 19 (7)
Dobmeier led flag to flag. Shilling got around Heskin early for the final transfer in a mostly single-file affair. Weuve went pitside on lap three, and Lambertz did so on lap five.
Heat three (started): 1. Mike Deavers 72 (1) 2. Zomer 1z (6) 3. Jon Corbin 15 (2) 4. Skip Jackson 2 (3) 5. Moore Jr. 17G (5) 6. Potter 47 (4) / 7. Jerry Richert Jr. 63 (8) 8. Robert Bell 71 (9) 9. Ryan Anderson (7)
Ry. Anderson performed a 360 spin before a lap could be completed, and retired. Deavers led the distance to qualify for his first A main of the year. Zomer had nothing for him, despite moving into second at the halfway mark. Jackson grabbed fourth on the last lap after a battle with Moore Jr.
B main (started): 1. Garner (1) 2. Gharst (3) / 3. Heskin (2) 4. Ry. Anderson (5) 5. M. Moore (7) 6. Lambertz (8) 7. Richert (6) 8. Bell (9) 9. Weuve (4)
When Gharst jumped the berm on the start of the 12 lapper, Ry. Anderson spun to avoid him and restarted at the rear. Garner jumped out to the lead, while Gharst stuck his car between the wall and Heskin in turn two to grab a runner-up spot he would never relinquish. Weuve brought about the only caution when he slowed on lap six. The restart saw Garner leading Gharst, Heskin, Richert and Ry. Anderson back to green.
A main (started): 1. Brown (5) 2. Logan (13) 3. Jackson (3) 4. Zomer (10) 5. Landis (11) 6. Dover (16) 7. Dobmeier (14) 8. Antill (7) 9. Garner (19) 10. Alley (8) 11. Gharst (20) 12. Ra. Anderson (12) 13. Moore Jr. (9) 14. Shilling (18) 15. Brahmer (2) 16. Phillips (17) 17. Potter (6) 18. Deavers (15) 19. Corbin (1) 20. Maeschen (4)
Jackson slid under Corbin for an initial advantage in the 25 lapper, but Corbin would come back to lead laps one and two. Lap two saw a caution for a simultaneous stop by Maeschen (who went pitside) and Gharst. At the time, Corbin led Jackson, Alley, Brown and Brahmer. Jackson overtook Corbin on the third go-around, but Brown was on the prowl. What is an all too familiar sight for Jackson, Brown passed him for the lead on lap six. By lap 10, Logan was surging forward and making his presence known on the bottom side. For the last 15 laps, he tracked Brown down in what may have been the best race for the lead yet this year. The large crowd could be heard above the engines for the first time in a long time, as Logan used the low side to pull even with the leader on several occasions. Brown was able to stay in front, patroling the high side as he admitted to being a little loose when interviewed in victory lane. Nonetheless, he captured the $3500 prize at the season's halfway point, and pulled to within 90 points of the points leader Zomer. Logan cashed in an extra $300 for hard-charger honors. Dover also moved forward nicely, finishing as the top rookie. Track conditions saw a top and bottom groove by feature time. A middle groove developed in three and four.
360s
Heat one (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Matt Moro 2m (2*) 2. Wayne Johnson 94 (9*) 3. Jeff Mitrisin 10 (6*) 4. John Schulz 2 (1*) 5. Josh Schneiderman 49 (4) 6. Ryan Roberts 18R (8) 7. Mike Houseman Jr. Y2 (7) 8. Russ Hall 29 (3) 9. Don Dawson II 6D (5)
Schulz used the low side to grab the point early in the seven lapper. A lap four spin by Dawson bunched the field. Schulz led Moro, R. Hall, Mitrisin and Houseman Jr. back to green flag racing. Moro nabbed the lead on the restart and a lap was completed before R. Hall spun out of third. By this time, Johnson had moved into fifth, and after the green fell made quick work of Houseman Jr., Mitrisin and Schulz to claim high point honors for the heats. The ASCoT regular raced at Knoxville after a rain out in Wheatland, MO.
Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Tom Lenz 8L (1*) 2. Frankie Heimbaugh 04 (2*) 3. Joe Beaver 53 (4*) 4. Bryan Dobesh 2D (5*) 5. John Hall 7H (6) 6. Nate Van Haaften 3 (3) 7. Nate Mosher 22N (8) 8. Adam Main 35A (9) 9. Glen Hunt G74 (7)
Heimbaugh, whose father Mackie was inducted into the Knoxville Hall of Fame tonight, led the first round before Lenz grabbed it from him on lap two. Beaver and J. Hall waged an intense battle for fourth early on with Beaver able to move up to third.
Heat three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Josh Higday 2x (6*) 2. Dave Hall 51 (2*) 3. Dustin Selvage 7 (4*) 4. Tyler Thompson 48 (7*) 5. Sean Walden 14w (1) 6. Rick Ideus 5 (8) 7. Tyler Houseman 50 (3) 8. Alan Zoutte 33 (5) 9. Gary Moyer 46 (9)
D. Hall grabbed the early lead shooting under Walden in turns one and two. Moyer came to a stop on lap three, and set up a restart with D. Hall leading Higday, Selvage, Walden and Thompson. Higday hit the cushion to shoot around D. Hall on the restart and pulled away for the win.
Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Brett Mather 54 (2*) 2. Natalie Sather 94s (4*) 3. Darren Long 7L (8*) 4. Johnny Anderson 7a (7*) 5. Jake Peters 57x (5) 6. Danny Heskin 65 (1) 7. CJ Houseman Y5 (6) 8. Jordan St. Arnold 7s (3)
Mather led flag to flag. Long from Ohio, was using the night to run some laps in preparation for the 360 Nationals. His run from eighth to third was impressive. J. Anderson moved up late to take fourth, while Peters was shut out of the A with his fifth place finish in the stout heat.
B main (started): 1. Schneiderman (2) 2. Ideus (3) 3. J. Hall (1) 4. Peters (6) / 5. Van Haaften (5) 6. Houseman Jr. (10) 7. Mosher (7) 8. Main (9) 9. Walden (4) 10. Zoutte (11) 11. Heskin (8) 12. CJ Houseman (12) 13. Moyer (15) 14. St. Arnold (16) 15. Hunt (17) 16. Dawson (13) 17. R. Hall (14) DNS - Roberts, T. Houseman
T. Houseman's front end folded in the pace laps for the event. Ideus flew under the front row starters to take the early lead in the 10 lapper. R. Hall's rough night came to an end when he got into the wall in turns three and four on lap four. The restart saw Ideus leading Schneiderman, J. Hall, Van Haaften and Peters. Four laps later, Schneiderman would fly around Ideus for the win. Peters was able to grab the final transfer from Van Haaften on the lap four restart.
A main (started): 1. Johnson (12) 2. Beaver (2) 3. D. Hall (3) 4. Long (8) 5. Heimbaugh (4) 6. Moro (10) 7. Mitrisin (5) 8. Mather (9) 9. Higday (11) 10. Dobesh (15) 11. Anderson (14) 12. Peters (20) 13. Sather (6) 14. Ideus (18) 15. J. Hall (19) 16. Schulz (16) 17. Lenz (7) 18. Thompson (13) 19. Schneiderman (17) 20. Selvage (1)
Selvage grabbed an early lead ahead of Beaver in the 20 lapper. Beaver passed Selvage on the low side of three and four on lap four. Selvage got sideways, and accelerated straight down the track into the infield guardrail in turn four. He was unhurt, but done. Johnson who went from 12th to 4th on lap one, now trailed Beaver and D. Hall. One more lap was in the books before a Thompson spin. On lap seven, Johnson slid in front of Beaver in turns one and two for the lead, but Beaver came back in three and four to reclaim it. Johnson sized up the leader on lap ten, and made his winning move. Clearly having the dominant car, he opened up nearly a half a lap lead over Beaver by the white flag. 30 yards from the finish, the length of his lead was eliminated with a caution. Thompson had slowed. The green, white, checker finish was only a formality as Johnson cashed in the $1500 check as well as $100 for hard-charger honors. Long and Heimbaugh staged some of the best racing of the event, exchanging fifth place much of the way with Long on the cushion and Heimbaugh on the low side. That spot became fourth when Mitrisin faded late.
