One lap later, Bergman had moved up to fifth and had some momentum when he spun in turn two as the result of the strong wind. He retired. McCarl built a lead, but Dover started to reel him in a bit in traffic. On lap 16, fourth running Nygaard tangled with a lapped car on the backstretch, collecting Brown, who took a wild ride. He went to the hospital complaining of back pain. Both were done, as was tenth running Garner, who was collected in the mess. The restart occurred after a lengthy delay and saw McCarl ahead of Dover, Alley, C. Meyer and Winters. McCarl took off from there, claiming the $5,000 first prize. A late charge by Alley challenged Dover for second, but fell short. Good charges were put on by W. Johnson, and hard-charger Graf.
