Maeschen and Blandford were both penalized a row for jumping the initial start. Hafertepe assumed the pole and led all 12 laps. A furious battle was going on behind him for position, as he won by over 8 seconds. Gharst rode fifth much of the race, working on Brahmer for the final transfer. Weuve and Maeschen were also battling for second. With four to go, a blanket could be thrown over all four. Gharst was able to ride the rim around Brahmer for fourth with two to go, and started working on Weuve and Maeschen. Maeshcne slowed and was relegated to fifth by Brahmer late in the going.

Meyers grabbed the early lead in the 30-lapper ahead of Saldana and Haud. As the lead pair entered traffic on lap eight, Saldana was able to sneak by in turn four for the point. Five laps later, Weuve flipped in turn two after hitting the infield tire. He was unhurt. The restart saw Saldana ahead of Meyers, Haudenschild, Kemenah and Sides. A lap later, Winters slowed to bring a caution. He would fix a nose wing that was askew in the work area. Schatz who had restarted a lap earlier in sixth, dropped two spots, having gone off the backstretch berm, giving sixth to Kaeding and seventh to McCarl. The remaining sixteen laps went non-stop. The track was racy from top to bottom and Saldana and Meyers headed to dense lapped traffic. On lap 26, Meyers found his way by Saldana in heavy lapped traffic. Saldana found his way back to the front on lap 28, but Meyers had the crowd on their feet as he slid across Saldana's bow in turn two on the final lap to take the $10,000 win. Several drivers moved up including McCarl, who gained six spots, and S. Kinser who was the hard-charger.
