Daryn Pittman (7th car out to time) set quick time on the 3/10-mile oval at 12.161 seconds, about seven-tenths off David Gravel’s 2014 record time of 11.416. Kerry Madsen (28th car out) was second quick, followed by Brad Sweet (1st), Gravel (13th), Jason Johnson (12th), Sheldon Haudenschild (26th), Ian Madsen (27th), Paul McMahan (4th), Kraig Kinser (14th) and Brian Brown (20th).
Heat one (started): 1. Gravel 5 (2) 2. Pittman 9 (1) 3. I. Madsen 18 (3) 4. Shane Stewart 2 (5) 5. Brown 21 (4) 6. Terry McCarl 24 (8) / 7. Jason Sides 7s (10) 8. Scotty Thiel 64 (7) 9. Tasker Phillips 7w (9) 10. Jacob Allen 1a (6)
Heats were ten laps and took the top six to the feature. The top two went to the Dash. The lead swapped hands three times in the first lap and a half, whith Gravel taking control ahead of Pittman and I. Madsen. McCarl moved into a transfer spot using the bottom by lap two. Stewart moved past Brown for fourth on lap three. Stewart then worked over I. Madsen for third, but couldn’t get by. McCarl also challenged Brown on the low side.
Heat two (started): 1. J. Johnson 41 (2) 2. K. Madsen 2m (1) 3. McMahan 4 (3) 4. Donny Schatz 15 (4) 5. Danny Lasoski 1m (5) 6. Scott Bogucki 84 (6) / 7. Logan Schuchart 1s (9) 8. Tim Kaeding 3 (8) 9. Brent Marks 19 (7) 10. Jason Tostenson 85 (10)
K. Madsen led McMahan and J. Johnson early. J. Johnson and McMahan dueled for second, with J. Johnson riding the cushion of turn two to take the spot on lap six. He would do the same to K. Madsen for the lead on lap eight. The best battle, however, was for the transfer. Three-wide action between Bogucki, Schuchart and Kaeding would decide it. Bogucki was able to hold the spot by an eyelash at the checkers.
Heat three (started): 1. Sweet 49 (1) 2. Haudenschild 93 (2) 3. Kinser 11K (3) 4. Brooke Tatnell 55 (6) 5. Greg Wilson w20 (7) 6. Bill Balog 17B (5) / 7. Davey Heskin 56N (8) 8. Paige Polyak 19P (4) 9. Russel Borland 23 (9) DNS – Clyde Knipp 13
Knipp had issues before the heat and did not start. Sweet took the early advantage over Haudenschild and Kinser. Tatnell briefly moved by Kinser for third on lap two, with Kinser getting back by him a lap later. Sweet would hold on for the win, with Haudenschild joining him in the Dash.
Things operated in rain mode at this point.
Dash (started): 1. Gravel (1) 2. Sweet (3) 3. J. Johnson (2) 4. K. Madsen (5) 5. Haudenschild (6) 6. Pittman (4)
Gravel led J. Johnson and Pittman early in the 8-lapper. Pittman would jump the turn one cushion and flip, ending his night. The team didn’t have enough time to make repairs before the feature. Gravel would hold onto his lead, while Sweet slid in front of J. Johnson on lap five for second after a great duel.
B main (started): 1. Polyak (1) 2. Marks (4) 3. Allen (2) 4. Sides (10) 5. Kaeding (5) 6. Schuchart (8) 7. Phillips (7) / 8. Thiel (3) 9. Heskin (6) 10. Borland (11) 11. Knipp (9) DNS – Tostenson
The 12-lapper ended up taking seven to the back of the feature after Pittman’s scratch. Polyak led early over Allen and Marks. Schuchart had moved up to sixth by time one circuit had completed, and Sides shot by five cars from tenth to fifth. Kaeding had entered the top five by lap three. Thiel pressured Schuchart for what appeared to be the last transfer over the last couple of laps. Thiel dove low in turn three to try a slide job, but fell short. After Thiel lost momentum, Phillips snagged what would be the final transfer on the last lap.
A main (to be made up:
At the start of the 40-lapper, K. Madsen slammed the turn two wall and limped off. Gravel took the lap one lead over Sweet and Kinser. On lap two, Haudenschild shot by Kinser for third. On the next lap, Brown flipped in turn two, and Schuchart was involved as well. The rains fell at that point. The remaining 37 laps of the feature will be made up on Thursday, July 6
