Threatening skies greeted Saturday night’s contingent at Knoxville.  “John (McCoy) and everyone did a heck of a job keeping the program moving along and getting it in,” says TKS Motorsports owner and crew chief, Troy Renfro.  “They did a fantastic job.  After the crash, it was a really good night for us.  We qualified well, which is always a key.”

“Saturday was awesome,” adds Austin.  “It rained off and on all night.  The #12 car (Lynton Jeffrey) laid down a pretty unbelievable lap, but we were second quick.  We kind of got in line there in the heat.  We ended up fifth, though I thought with a couple more laps we could have had Ian (Madsen).”

The team tried to stay on top of track conditions.  “The track was kind of heavy and a little bit narrow with the sprinkles falling all night,” says Troy.  “In the feature, it started widening out.  But it was a fast track, and Austin did a good job.”

Austin would start outside row one for the main event.  “We were lucky enough to be third in points and catch the invert right,” he says.  “That put us on the front row.  We ran second.  We had a really fast Casey’s car.  If I could go back, I may have made a mistake or two, but Matt (Juhl) ran a great race and did well in traffic.  It’s a good thing when you’re a little disappointed in running second.  We’ll be ready again for this week.”

Troy says that teaming with Austin for 2017 has been great for the entire TKS Motorsports team.  “We’re really happy with the way things have gone,” he says.  “We’ve had comments from a lot of fans about how good Austin is with them, especially the kids.  That makes us feel good.  That’s what it’s all about.  That’s important to us and it’s important to our partners.”

The team will concentrate on Knoxville for the time being.  “We’d like to be able to race a little more, but we’re down a car,” says Troy.  “So we’ll get ready for Saturday.  Last week was a good point night for us too.  We were able to move up to third.  Things at Knoxville are going well, so we want to keep working hard there.”
