Brian at Jackson (Mike Spieker – Speedway Shots)
(Bill W) June 5, 2017 – Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 have been very strong at Knoxville Raceway and sit atop the point standings entering a weekend that will see two nights of World of Outlaws action. The Grain Valley, Missouri driver is primed for the opportunity. Last weekend, the Jackson Nationals didn’t go as well as hoped, but the team has hit the “reset button” for this week. If things go well at Knoxville, Brian will also compete with the All Stars at 34 Raceway in West Burlingotn, Iowa Sunday.
Qualifying is what really set you back at Jackson last weekend. You timed in 13th quick both nights.
Our qualifying has been our strong suit all year long. We just missed the setup both nights. Points-wise it really hurt us, and it hurt us in track position too. We felt like we passed cars every time we were on the track, but the qualifying set us back big time.
That set you back in the heats, and you had to battle through the B Thursday and Friday.
We just weren’t near to where we needed to be. Even after winning the previous week there, I didn’t feel that we were great. We just really never made any big gains on it.
You did pass seventeen cars between the three features and topped with a 13th place finish in Saturday’s finale.
Every time we were on the track, we passed cars. Our finishes still should have been better than what they were. Every night, we were further up in the pack. Then, I’d try to make something happen and it would cost us a couple spots. It was disappointing, but with Knoxville on the horizon, we don’t have time to dwell in the past.
You have been running very well each week at Knoxville.
We can’t wait to get there Friday. This Outlaw weekend is going to be very important to make sure we qualify well. We have one of our best engines ready to go. There’s no reason we shouldn’t go out and put down a good lap. When we do that, it will put us in a good position.
Have you been especially looking forward to this weekend?
We’ve had the mindset of looking race to race, and not too far forward. This is a race that we’ve had in the back of our mind though. We feel we’re as good as we’ve ever been at Knoxville. If we do our job qualifying, in the heat, the Dash and 25 laps in the feature, we should be in good position. Chad, Michael, Jordan and Holden put a solid day in today in the shop, and we’re looking forward to the weekend.
I know you’re taking part in a special meet and greet Thursday at Brownell’s.
We’re going to be at Brownell’s in Grinnell on Thursday. It will be a media day for Knoxville Raceway for this weekend. We’ll also have our t-shirt trailer over at Dingus all weekend. We’d like to see a local on top of the podium this weekend. Come Sunday morning, I wouldn’t be surprised to see if not one, maybe two local winners this weekend.
