The 2/5-mile oval was prepared well.  Though it was fast, there were multiple grooves.  8-lap heats used passing points to lock the top 16 into the feature.  The first heat was arguably the stoutest.  Baughman led the distance, ahead of Bergman and Stewart.  Brown pressured Cornell in a good race.  Madsen and Ledger traded seventh in another good battle.

Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Sam Hafertepe Jr. 15H (1*) 2. Johnny Herrera 45x (4*) 3. Jason Martin 36 (2*) 4. Jack Dover 53 (5) 5. Chris Martin 44 (6) 6. Jay Russell 76 (7) 7. Danny Thoman 27 (3) 8. Zach Davis 3z (9) 9. Alex Hill 77x (8)

Reutzel led flag to flag and won in convincing fashion.  Lasoski and W. Johnson were the movers.  W. Johnson pressured Lasoski in the end and appeared to have the faster car, but settled for fifth.

Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Matt Covington 95 (8*) 2. Terry McCarl 24 (5*) 3. Skylar Gee (2) 4. Blake Hahn 52 (3) 5. Jamie Ball 5J (9*) 6. Jeremy McCune 0J (6) 7. Andee Beierle 41A (7) 8. Mindy McCord 11 (1) 9. Craig Dollansky 88 (4)

The best heat of the night began with Dollansky jumping to the front, ahead of Gee and Covington, who charged up from eighth.  Covington took second, and then McCarl moved into third on lap four.  Covington gained on Dollansky and passed him at the white flag.  Both leaders hesitated behind the lapper of McCord.  Dollansky blew his right rear in three, ending his night.  Covington went on to win as high point man.

Hahn led early in the 12-lapper over Gee and Russell.  Russell would take second don lap three.  Walton made heavy contact with the turn one wall three laps in while battling with Madsen for fifth.  The restart saw Hahn leading Russell, Gee, Bellm and Madsen.  Madsen moved into fourth when the green flew, and moved by Gee for the third and final transfer two laps later.  Russell pressured Hahn in the closing stages, but settled for second.

Dover led C. Martin and McCune past the halfway point.  McCord took a nasty ride in turn one, that saw her top wing shed early.  She was o.k.  Dover led C. Martin, McCune, White and Ledger back to green.  Both White and Ledger moved by McCune for third and fourth on the restart.  Ledger pressured White and shot under her for the final transfer with two laps to go.

The track was still fast come feature time and Reutzel led early in the 25-lapper over Covington and Morgan.  Hafertepe, who won the first five ASCS events heading into Lakeside, passed Morgan for third on the second lap.  Morgan shot back by him on the next lap before Ledger flipped hard in turn one.  He was unhurt.  Reutzel took the green again, ahead of Covington, Morgan, Hafertepe and Baughman.  Hafertepe shot into third on the restart, and set his sights on Covington.  Meanwhile, Covington pulled beside Reutzel for the lead on lap ten.  Reutzel shut the door heading into turn one, costing Covington momentum.  Hafertepe took advantage, moving into second.  Eight laps later, he would pass Reutzel at the line for the lead.  That would only last until turns one and two, when Reutzel cruised back by on the bottom.  Covington was back in the picture as well, taking second back from Hafertepe briefly on lap 21.  Hafertepe would recapture the spot with two to go, but fell one spot short of keeping his streak going.  W. Johnson moved forward six spots in a tough field to earn hard-charger honors.

Burks and Kitchen exited early.  Baker led Chapple and Boyles out of the gates in the non-stop 20-lapper.  Boyles used the low side to cruise by Chapple for second on lap four.  The race stayed mostly single-file from there, but Boyles was slowly reeling in the leader.  Baker was running the cushion, while Boyles had the left front jacked up on the low side.  Finally, on lap 16, he pulled beside Baker and pulled in front at the flagstand.  Boyles would go on to take the win at Lakeside for the second year in a row.
