Brady Bacon – Double Duty this Weekend in Tulare!

Wednesday, March 9, 2016
(Bill W) March 9, 2016 – The coming weekend will be a lot like the last one for Brady Bacon, busy!  The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver is planning on double duty for Josh Ford’s Walker Performance Filtration/Edgewater Construction #73 team this weekend.  They’ll compete Friday and Saturday at the Tulare Thunderbowl in California with both the World of Outlaws and the USAC West Coast Series.  Brady made three shows with the WoO last weekend, and finished third with the USAC West Coast Series in Las Vegas on Friday.

Friday’s events at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas included a great USAC West Coast feature that saw Brady make a charge.  “There just wasn’t a whole lot of passing in the heat race, and we ended up starting 13th in the feature,” he says.  “It took a while to get going, and I got going on top.  We were able to get all the way up to second.  Bryan (Clauson) got caught up in some lapped traffic and we were able to get by him for the lead.”

He would lead under the white flag, before settling for third in a great finish.  “Lapped traffic was on the top and the bottom, and I just picked the wrong line coming for the white flag in three and four,” says Brady.  “The second and third place cars got a good head of steam when I slowed for the lapped cars, and they passed me going into one and two.  I tried to run the bottom and slipped a bit.  I couldn’t catch back up in three and four.”

Brady felt good about the #73 team’s efforts.  “The car wasn’t perfect, but we were able to make the most of it and fight up there for the win,” he says.  “Not many were able to do much passing.  So we were fortunate to get up there in the first place.  It was a good race and I think everyone enjoyed it.  I just wish we could have won it.”

The team also performed well with the wing and the World of Outlaws.  “We were able to make the show both nights at Vegas,” says Brady.  “The #73 team hasn’t run a whole lot of winged stuff, and I haven’t been great on the half-miles in the last year.  We were able to qualify well both nights (9th quick and 19th).  We got a little lucky with the pill draw, but you take what you can get sometimes.”

The prelim saw an 18th place run.  “We had to run the B (which he won) on Thursday and we changed the car,” says Brady.  “That helped us as the weekend went on.  The track in the feature on Thursday…there wasn’t a whole lot you could do.”

Brady moved up to fourth in his heat on Friday to make the main event.  “I messed around on the bottom a little too long in the feature on Friday,” he says.  “I went to the top and we were pretty good, but I got lapped and we couldn’t really race too hard after that.”

Sunday, the team towed down to Arizona Speedway near Queens Creek to compete with the WoO.  “We didn’t qualify well in Arizona (26th),” says Brady.  “We got better in the heat (9th to 7th) and better in the B (8th to 5th).  We started 23rd in the feature, and got up to 15th or 16th.  We had a shock come off so I pulled in.  It felt good to get some more speed.”

Brady was happy with the team’s first outings last weekend and is looking forward to double duty in Tulare.  “We learned a lot and gained a lot of speed throughout the weekend,” he says.  “It’s encouraging going forward not only for my car in the Midwest, but also for the #73 team as we go into Tulare this weekend.”
