(Bill W) April 26, 2016 – Josh Schneiderman and the Deuce Motorsports #49 team were looking to get some laps last weekend, competing with the MOWA series at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois in addition to their weekly run at Knoxville on Saturday. After finishing thirteenth in his first trip to Jacksonville since 2008, an unfortunate heat race incident essentially ended the West Burlington, Iowa driver’s night at Knoxville Saturday. The team is planning on being back in action at Knoxville this Saturday before the Sprint Invaders head to the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa next Wednesday, May 4.
Josh would time in 12th quick amongst the 31-car field at Jacksonville. “It was the first time we’d been to Jacksonville in a 410, and the first time period since 2008, so we were happy with our time there,” he says. “It had been a long time, and I’d never seen the track quite like it was Friday. It was a racy little joint and the cushion was tall. They did a nice job prepping it.”
He would transfer through his heat, finishing third. “MOWA has become a good series and there are a lot of tough drivers there,” says Josh. “They had two or three guys that don’t normally follow them that were there too. We were happy to lock ourselves into the feature.”
Josh would take the green inside row six. “We were better than we finished,” he says. “We were running tenth or eleventh there most of the race. I wasn’t really happy with where we were running so I started moving around the track a little. A couple of cars got past us towards the end and we ended up thirteenth. Overall, we were fairly satisfied with it being our first time ever there in a 410. We still have some rust to shake off, and going to Jacksonville and getting some laps in was a good way to do that. We had a good time and it was something different.”
At Knoxville, he would time in 19th quick. “I really felt good about the car and our lap in time trials,” says Josh. “I was a little bit baffled that our time didn’t show that. We’re doing some research on how to make that better.”
Unfortunately, an incident in the first heat collected Josh, sending the #49 upside down. “Our qualifying lap ultimately cost us,” he says. “We were in the back of the heat. Dustin (Selvage) had something break, which is how it goes. We just had nowhere to go. He did what he could to get his car out of the way. It’s just how it goes. I’m just thankful that neither of us was hurt.”
The car was damaged significantly, however. “The crash actually broke our frame,” says Josh. “It ripped the panhard bar off the front mounts. It ripped that spud out. It wasn’t safe to race, but we wanted to take the green to get our points and show our sponsors that we were working hard to get back out there. I have to thank both our guys and (Davey) Heskin’s guys for getting us ready.”
