For the third time in his career James McFadden is a Classic Champion having won an epic 40-lap finale on Australia Day at the Premier Speedway in Warrnambool. After starting on the second row, courtesy of his runner-up finish on Friday, McFadden ran inside the top four for the early stages of the race trailing pole sitter Jock Goodyer and local favourite Jamie Veal, but once he took the lead on lap 25 he was never headed as he defeated American Cory Eliason and Jamie Veal.
“To win this race 3 times is amazing, and to do it in the first year that the Brady’s have come back into the sport is incredible. I’m pretty sure this win also makes “Buzzy” the winningest crew chief in Australian history so its pretty special” added James following his win.
“This race should never sell out. Everyone should have the chance to attend this event. It's about time they started building some stands or moving some dirt around and fit 20,000 people in here and make it $100,000 to win, as this race deserves to be the biggest race in Australia”.
Following his victory McFadden celebrated with a series of traditional “Classic Donuts” and then attempted his own signature celebration, a shoey while performing a wing dance, but it almost ended in tears as James fell from the top wing. Later in the pit area his son Mav was seen performing his own, more successful, shoey on the tail gate of the Brady Motorsports transporter in front a large crowd of McFadden fans.
A fast-finishing Brock Hallett would finish fourth after briefly holding a podium spot while Jock Goodyer, who spent the entire race bashing down the cushion on the high side. Faded to finish fifth.
Young Victorian standout Jordyn Charge would claim sixth with Garett Williamson, who claimed the “Rookie of the Year” title, Cole Macedo, Matt Dumesny and Kerry Madsen completing the top 10.
More information regarding the Classic will follow.
