The fans were late showing up to Kick Your Boots Night presented by Platte Valley Equipment and Pepsi Cola of Lincoln last evening at Eagle Raceway. That was probably due to the heat and humidity. Both went away as the evening progressed but the racing action turned up the heat on the track.
I’ve always said that one of the best, if not THE best part of doing what I do is interviewing first time winners and those who have waited a long time to get another victory notch on their belts. I had the pleasure of doing both last night.
No serious incidents occurred during the preliminary racing.
The Twin Rivers IMCA Racesaver Feature’s first circuit had Brandon Horton’s 1B out front, the 8B of Jake Galusha second, Joey Danley third in the 14 and the 91 of Adam Gullion fourth. Galusha got past Horton for the lead on lap 3. Jordan Boston’s #11 slowed to a stop on lap 6 and was towed to the pits. The red flag was displayed for a medical emergency in the stands. Gullion was penalized 1 spot for jumping the start earlier, moving Gunnar Pike’s 25 to fourth. Danley grabbed second on the restart. Pike advanced to third on lap 8. Tyler Drueke moved his #12 into fourth 2 laps later and took over the third spot with 10 laps left. 4 to go saw Shon Pointer’s 20P tangle with Galusha, spinning both of them out. That moved Danley to the top spot, Drueke to second, Pike to third and Gullion regaining fourth. Trevor Grossenbacher passed Gullion on the restart, putting the 35 into fourth. The final top 4 were Danley, Drueke, Pike and Grossenbacher.
Joey has been splitting his time between racing his 360 and Eagle Raceway, but he said “This is our home track and always will be. It’s great to get a win anywhere, but it means more here. I got a little handicap tonight, starting in the second row. I don’t think I’ve ever started that far forward, so I thought that if I didn’t win it would be a big disappointment. I got lucky starting where I did and then I got lucky with whatever happened to Jake. I was catching him in traffic, but I don’t know if I could have caught him or not. I do think it’s about time some luck falls my way though. I chased Jake the whole race. He was really fast in clean air and I wasn’t going to catch him. The traffic really wasn’t slowing him down for a while. But then it got thicker and thicker and it slowed him up a little bit. Luckily, I got by that deal”. Joey’s sponsors include Nissen Hardwood Floors, Empire Fencing, Meyers Race Engines, MySalesman, The Wave, High Performance Lubricants and Onyx Digital Group.
Following the races, the traditional Hillbilly Slip ‘N Slide took place in turns 1 and 2.What could possibly be more fun than hurtling down the high banks of turns 1 and 2 on a gigantic plastic sheet soaked by a fire hose???
Next weekend is the High Bank Showdown presented by the Lincoln Stars and High Noon.
