Mark Dobmeier – Win #114 Comes in River Cities Finale!

Wednesday, September 23, 2015
(Bill W) September 23, 2015 – Mark Dobmeier registered his seventh win of the season and the 114th in his career at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota Friday night.  Mark’s win came aboard the Jimco Motorsports #13.  The team will take a week off before finalizing their season at the FVP National Sprint League “Fearless 410 Finale” October 2 and 3 at I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska.

Mark started with a good heat race run.  “It was their last night of the year,” he says.  “We started back a ways in the heat race and got up to second.  It was a decent track.  It was racy.  They had a top and a bottom in three and four.”

He would start ninth in the feature.  “We slowly worked our way forward,” says Mark.  “We picked off guys and got the lead with about ten to go.  Casey Mack was out front setting a good pace.  We were able to get a good run on the frontstretch and slide him in one and two.  We were able to take off after that.”

On Sunday, the team headed to Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, Minnesota.  “Buffalo Wild Wings was offering some extra money for the NOSA race in Glyndon,” says Mark.  “We started on the pole of the heat and won that.  With their passing points, if you draw the pole, you have to win.  Even then, you don’t know where you’re going to end up.”

Mark was scheduled to start fifth in the feature.  “Someone dropped out and we ended up starting third,” he says.  “We were able to drive up to second, and actually passed Austin (Pierce) for the lead.  He was running the middle of the track, and I snuck by him on the bottom.  The yellow flag came out, and he wasn’t going to let me do that again.”

Instead of following Pierce, he would look for a way to win.  “They kind of struggle getting a good racetrack there,” says Mark.  “It’s very small.  With sprint cars, it’s kind of like jet fighters in a gymnasium.  The track is so hard that it’s tough to keep moisture in.  If they could keep water in it, it would be good, but it laid rubber, and everyone was on the bottom.  I searched around and found out there wasn’t any other lines.  I went to the top of three and four and proved that.  I slid off the track and went to the back.  We were able to get back up to eighth.  We got what we could.”
