Brian Brown (8th car out to time) set quick time at 13.326 seconds. Dave Blaney (5th car out) was second quick, followed by Carson Macedo (11th by choice), Logan Schuchart (1st), Tyler Courtney (7th), Ian Madsen (49th), Paul McMahan (28th), Danny Dietrich (10th), Kyle Larson (20th) and Rico Abreu (13th).
Both Trey Jacobs and Ryan Smith contacted the turn one wall hard and helicoptered down the track. Both were ok. Tim Shaffer failed to get a time in. Cole Macedo was disqualified for a nose wing infraction.
Brown rolled the wheel of “misfortune” setting the heat invert at four.
Rain began to fall soon after. The delay was three hours and 45 minutes before pushing off for hot laps.
Heat one (started): 1. Daryn Pittman 39 (1) 2. Cory Eliason 26 (2) 3. Brown 21 (4) / 4. McMahan 5 (3) 5. Brock Zearfoss 3z (7) 6. Hunter Schuerenberg 55 (5) / 7. Cole Macedo 18x (11) 8. Harli White 11N (8) 9. Bryce Schmitt 18s (9) 10. Nate Reeser 83x (10) 11. James McFadden 9 (6)
10-lap heats take the top three to the feature, the next three to the B, and the remaining to the C. Heat winner will start sixth in the feature. The two quickest qualifiers not making it into the top three will also be in the A. McFadden contacts Brown’s right rear and heads into the wall and upside down. He is o.k. The track is fast and narrow after the rains. Pittman leads the distance. Brown is all over Eliason for second, but has no room to pass. Co. Macedo came one spot away from moving up into a B main spot.
Rain begins again at 11:30 p.m. and race postponed until Saturday afternoon.
