David Gravel (22nd car out to time) set quick time on the fast 4/10-mile oval at 13.229 seconds. Brad Sweet (6th car out) was second quick, followed by Brian Brown (21st), Carson Macedo (32nd), Sam Hafertepe Jr. (25th), Jacob Allen (17th), Aaron Reutzel (28th), Brock Zearfoss (1st), Logan Schuchart (4th) and Donny Schatz (31st). Craig Pellegrini failed to get a lap in. Danny Dietrich had a motor issue and change. Sheldon Haudenschild missed the scales. Sweet, Brent Marks, Gravel and Macedo set quick time in their respective heat groups.
Heat one (started): 1. Schuchart 1s (2) 2. Joey Saldana 12N (1) 3. Sweet 49 (4) 4. Kerry Madsen 101 (8) 5. Zearfoss 3z (3) / 6. Parker Price-Miller 19 (5) 7. Cory Eliason 26 (7) 8. Mason Daniel 33m (6)
8-lap heats saw the heat winners and the fastest qualifier finishing in the top five making the Dash. The top five finishers moved on to the A. Saldana led lap one in this one before Schuchart took over. Zearfoss held off a persistent Price-Miller for the final transfer.
Heat two (started): 1. Danny Dietrich 48 (1) 2. Ian Madsen 11 (2) 3. Brent Marks 5 (4) 4. Anthony Macri 39m (6) 5. Wayne Johnson 2c (7) / 6. Cale Conley 3c (3) 7. Justin Peck 13 (5) DNS – Craig Pellegrini 27c
Macri was penalized to the tail for jumping the first start. Dietrich led wire to wire after changing a motor. Macri jumped back into a transfer before a lap was complete. He then took fourth from Conley on lap two. Johnson was riding well in the low groove and gained on Conley for the final transfer before taking the spot with two to go.
Heat three (started): 1. Kasey Kahne 9 (1) 2. Allen 1a (2) 3. Gravel 2 (4) 4. Brown 21 (3) 5. Tim Shaffer 72 (5) / 6. Hunter Schuerenberg 55 (6) 7. Zach Hampton 15B (8) 8. Joe Conway 11c (7)
The first five were set from the first lap. Conway slowed to bring a caution two laps in. Brown passed Gravel for third in a good battle on lap four, but Gravel battled back the net lap.
Heat four (started): 1. Schatz 15 (1) 2. Reutzel 83 (2) 3. Macedo 41 (4) 4. Sheldon Haudenschild 17 (8) 5. Tyler Courtney 7BC (6) / 6. Gio Scelzi 18 (5) 7. Hafertepe 15H (3) 8. Steve Buckwalter 17B (7)
This was by far the stoutest heat from the pole to the tail. Schatz took off and won going away from the solid field. Haudenschild jumped from eighth to fourth right away. Courtney used the low side to track down Scelzi for the final transfer with two to go.
Dash one (started): 1. Sweet (1) 2. Dietrich (3) 3. Schatz (2) 4. Brown (5) 5. Marks (4)
4-lap heats set the inside (dash one) and outside (dash two) starting spots in the first five rows of the feature. Dietrich used a good start to slide by Schatz for second.
Dash two (started): 1. Macedo (2) 2. Schuchart (1) 3. Gravel (3) 4. Allen (5) 5. Kahne (4)
Macedo led the distance. Allen made the only pass, getting by Kahne on lap two.
B main (started): 1. Price-Miller (2) 2. Hafertepe (1) 3. Eliason (6) 4. Scelzi (3) / 5. Daniel (9) 6. Peck (7) 7. Conley (4) 8. Buckwalter (10) 9. Hampton (8) 10. Conway (11) 11. Schuerenberg (5) DNS – Pellegrini
The 12-lap feature took the top four to the back of the A. Schuerenberg tagged the turn two wall and dropped out at the outset. Price-Miller led Hafertepe the distance. Eliason moved up from row three to fourth by lap two before a Hampton spin slowed things. Price-Miller led Hafertepe, Scelzi, Eliason and Conley back to green. Eliason would gain a spot on the restart and finish there.
A main (started): 1. Macedo (2) 2. Schuchart (4) 3. Sweet (1) 4. Gravel (6) 5. Dietrich (3) 6. Allen (8) 7. Schatz (5) 8. Saldana (12) 9. Kahne (10) 10. Haudenschild (16) 11. Zearfoss (17) 12. Marks (9) 13. K. Madsen (14) 14. Shaffer (18) 15. Scelzi (24) 16. Reutzel (11) 17. Courtney (19) 18. Brown (7) 19. I. Madsen (13) 20. Eliason (23) 21. Price-Miller (21) 22. Macri (15) 23. Hafertepe (22) 24. Johnson (20)
The 25-lapper saw a track that yielded a top groove and not much else. Macedo, Schuchart, Sweet and Gravel settled into the top four on the first lap and that’s how things ended. There were some exciting times in traffic in the non-stop event from lap seven on, but Macedo negotiated things every single time in his first win for Jason Johnson Racing. Scelzi was the hard-charger.
