Brad Sweet (27th car out to time) was the last car in qualifying and set quick time at 10.392 seconds.  It was significantly drier than Paul McMahan’s record lap of 9.846 in 2016 around the .274-mile oval.  Kerry Madsen (25th car out) was second quick, followed by David Gravel (10th), Sheldon Haudenschild (5th), Kraig Kinser (20th), Logan Shuchart (4th), Parker Price-Miller (11th), Jacob Allen (17th), Donny Schatz (21st) and Carson Macedo (6th).  Bill Rose did not get a lap in.  Time trials were delayed for the sun to go down, and for repairs to Brian Brown’s car, which got run over by a push truck.

Heat one (started): 1. Sweet 49 (1) 2. Haudenschild 17 (2) 3. Macedo 2 (4) 4. Price-Miller 14 (3) 5. Wayne Johnson 2c (6) 6. Jason Sides 7s (9) / 7. Tucker Klaasmeyer 27 (7) 8. Mason Daniel 33m (8) 9. Austin McCarl 17A (5)

Sweet took an early lead over Macedo and Haudenschild in the 10-lap heat that took the top two to the Dash, and top six to the A.  McCarl exited early.  Klaasmeyer worked up to fifth, but Johnson got by him, as did Sides who started last and claimed the last transfer spot.  Haudenschild worked by Macedo with contact for the second spot after a good battle for position.

Heat two (started): 1. Kinser 11K (2) 2. Madsen 2m (1) 3. Allen 1a (3) 4. Daryn Pittman 83 (5) 5. Scott Bogucki 28 (4) 6. Brooke Tatnell 2KS (7) / 7. Sam Hafertepe Jr. 15H (6) 8. Matt Juhl 09 (8) 9. Tasker Phillips 7TAZ (9)

Kinser led the distance ahead of Madsen and Allen.  Four laps in, the backstretch lights went out.  It was about a fifteen minute delay before Kinser led Madsen, Allen and Pittman back to green.  Phillips exited.  With four to go, Tatnell worked by Hafertepe for the sixth and final transfer.

Heat three (started): 1. Gravel 41 (1) 2. Schuchart 1s (2) 3. Schatz 15 (3) 4. Hunter Schuerenberg 55 (5) 5. Ayrton Gennetten 3 (6) 6. Dominic Scelzi 41s (7) / 7. Brian Brown 21 (4) 8. Tim Kaeding 7 (8) 9. Bill Rose 6 (9)

Gravel led wire to wire.  Schuerenberg passed Brown for fourth on lap three, and Gennetten followed him into fifth on the next go-around.  A three-way battle for the final transfer ensued.  You could throw a blanket over them with two to go.  Brown, Kaeding and Scelzi battled to the finish, with Scelzi nabbing the spot after contact in the last corner.

Dash (started): 1. Sweet (4) 2. Schuchart (1) 3. Gravel (2) 4. Kinser (6) 5. Haudenschild (3) 6. Madsen (5)

The 8-lap Dash set the first three rows of the feature.  Schuchart led Gravel much of the way, but Sweet was on his game in the second half.  He made another last corner pass to steal the win from Schuchart.

B main (started): 1. Kaeding (7) 2. Brown (1) 3. Klaasmeyer (3) 4. McCarl (2) 5. Hafertepe (4) 6. Daniel (5) / 7. Juhl (6) 8. Phillips (8) 9. Rose (9)

The 12-lapper took the top six to the feature.  Brown led McCarl and Klaasmeyer early.  Kaeding was the story.  He was fifth by lap two, took fourth on lap three and passed Klaasmeyer for third on lap five.  He shot by McCarl for second on the halfway point and shot into the lead with two to go.

A main (started): 1. Haudenschild (5) 2. Sweet (1) 3. Schuchart (2) 4. Gravel (3) 5. Schatz (9) 6. Macedo (7) 7. Madsen (6) 8. Pittman (11) 9. Price-Miller (10) 10. Kinser (4) 11. Kaeding (19) 12. Sides (16) 13. Allen (8) 14. Scelzi (18) 15. Gennetten (15) 16. Johnson (13) 17. Klaasmeyer (21) 18. Schuerenberg (12) 19. Daniel (24) 20. Brown (20) 21. Hafertepe (23) 22. Bogucki (14) 23. Tatnell (17) 24. McCarl (22)

The 35-lapper saw Sweet jet out to an early lead over Schuchart and Haudenschild.  By lap six, Gravel was by Haudenschild for the third spot and the leaders entered lapped traffic on the seventh circuit.  Haudenschild got in rhythm and shot from fourth to second on the cushion on lap ten.  At that point, Tatnell slowed to bring the caution.  Sweet chose the inside line on the double-file restart ahead of Haudenschild, Schuchart, Gravel, Macedo and Kinser.  Haudenschild took the lead on the restart and Gravel moved up to third before another was complete and Bogucki stopped with a broken front end after contact in turn one.  This time, Haudenschild chose the outside line ahead of Sweet, Gravel, Schuchart, Madsen and Macedo.  Schuchart moved into third, chasing Sweet and Gravel back into lapped traffic on the 17th circuit.  Haudenschild hit the turn two cushion hard on the 18th lap, but saved it from dumping.  Sweet pounced into the lead at that point.  He weaved through traffic and built a big lead before Haudenschild started slowly reeling him in.  With five laps to go, two lapped cars were between the two, and it seemed like Haudenschild would have trouble getting by.  With two to go, he cleared the pair, and at the white flag, Sweet had a wall of lappers ahead of him.  Haudenschild hit the cushion hard in both one and two, and three and four.  Shooting on the top of turn four, he squeezed between the wall and Sweet to take the last corner win by just over a tenth of a second.  Schatz grabbed a top five spot in the last five laps.  Kaeding was the hard-charger.
