(Bill W) April 13, 2016 – Wayne Johnson and the Two-C Racing team will be back in action this weekend in both 410 and 360 competition. On Saturday, the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma driver will have the “big iron” in for the opener at Knoxville Raceway in Iowa, before running Sunday with the ASCS-Warrior region at the Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia. Last weekend, Wayne overcame some heat difficulties to pass fourteen cars between the B and A mains at I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska.
Saturday’s race saw the Nebraska 360 Sprints contesting at the 4/10-mile I-80 oval. Wayne’s problems started while lining up for his heat. “We hot lapped o.k.,” he says. “We had a brand new car, brand new everything. We didn’t get to make a lap in the heat though. The brand new wing valve we had on blew a seal. There went all the power steering fluid. That put us behind the 8-ball.”
Lining up tenth in the B, Wayne would climb through the field to register the win. “We ran up to third there and most of the race, that’s where we ran,” he says. “I’m just not comfortable enough in this new car yet. I was able to manipulate it enough to get the lead and win the race. Then we brought it in and made some changes.”
He would start 17th in the main event. “We were able to get up to twelfth,” says Wayne. “We didn’t get going the best and I followed (Danny) Lasoski around the bottom. My car wasn’t as good as his down there, and I should have went to the top. I thought we were going to sneak by some guys on the bottom. I waited too long. He cleared a bundle of cars there, and by the time I moved up, the track was laying rubber. We were just following each other at that point.”
Wayne and several teams will get some lap time at Knoxville tonight. “We’re going to do some testing tonight at Knoxville,” he says. “We’re planning on running the 410 at Knoxville on Saturday. Then we’ll do the motor change and run Sedalia. We’ve run well there in the past so we’re looking forward to it.”
