8-lap heats used passing points. The top 30 in points from the heats locked into the Qualifiers. The first start was called back. On the backstretch, Barker got over Daniel’s wheel and flipped. He was o.k. Daniel replaced his tire. Ba. Elliott was penalized to the back for not having a radio hooked up. Bruce shot into the lead once the race went green. W. Johnson dogged him until sliding in front of him at the halfway point.

8-lap Qualifiers were inverted by six depending on passing points in the heats. Passing points were again used, with the two races added together. The top 12 in points locked into the feature. Covington dominated out front from the pole. W. Johnson, the high point getter in the heats, shot from fifth to third on the third lap, but couldn’t climb any higher.
Qualifier two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Hafertepe (3*) 2. E. Martin (1*) 3. Cornell (5*) 4. Bergman (6*) 5. Crawley (4) 6. McClelland (7) 7. Gee (8) 8. C. Martin (10) 9. N. Ryun (2) 10. Butler (9)
