Heat one (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Mike Reinke 02 (1*) 2. Brent Antill 1 (3*) 3. Tim St. Arnold 8s (6*) 4. Bill Warren 95 (4*) 5. John Sernett 91 (8*) 6. Jim Kouba 4 (5) 7. Ryan Irwin 49 (2) 8. Jack Dubin 91D (7)
Reinke dominated the eight lapper and won by a straightaway in a mostly single-file affair. Sernett threatened Warren late, but couldn't get by. Passing points were used, and the eighteen highest in points earned spots in the A.
Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Mike Kertscher 80k (1*) 2. Skip Jackson 2 (4*) 3. Scotty Neitzel 2w (6*) 4. Steve Meyer 85m (2*) 5. John Haeni 21J (7*) 6. Matt Wasmund 4w (8) 7. Jason Johnson 44 (3) 8. Mike Stefka 83D (5)
Kertscher shot out to an early lead. Jackson worked second away from Meyer. Wasmund came to a stop on lap five, bringing out the caution. This allowed Neitzel and Haeni to better position themselves for spots in the A. Jackson was just short of getting by Kertscher at the line in a battle for the lead.
Heat three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Jeff Mitrisin 17G (7*) 2. Dave Uttech 68 (2*) 3. Wayne Modjeski 77 (1*) 4. Ty Bartz 75 (3*) 5. Joe Kouba 55 (6) 6. Bill Wirth 53w (4) 7. Dan Owings 19K (5) 8. Jim Cruise Jr. 77c (8)
D. Uttech jumped out to an early lead over Modjeski. Meanwhile Mitrisin had moved up to fourth by the time Cruise and Owings got together bringing out a lap two caution. Mitrisin surged to second after another lap was complete after the restart. Another caution appeared for Cruise who came to a stop. Now D. Uttech led Mitrisin, Modjeski, Bartz and Jo. Kouba. Bartz performed a 360 after another lap was complete, collecting Owings. Mitrisin had managed to take the lead from D. Uttech and led the rest of the way in commanding fashion. Bartz was able to recover for fourth and a transfer, grabbing fourth from Jo. Kouba with two to go.
Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Scott Biertzer 4B (4*) 2. Scott Young 22 (3*) 3. Kurt Davis 6K (6*) 4. Kim Mock 1m (1*) 5. Scott Uttech 7 (2) 6. Andy Hunt 9A (7) 7. Rusty Egan 50 (5)
Mock led the first lap, but Young gained it from him on the second go-around, but a spin by Hunt negated the pass. Young got the lead back on the restart, but on the third lap, he was overtaken by a surging Biertzer, who held it the rest of the way.
B main (started): 1. S. Uttech (2) 2. Wasmund (3) 3. Ji. Kouba (5) 4. Stefka (11) 5. Johnson (7) 6. Jo. Kouba 7. Hunt / 8. Wirth (6) 9. Egan (9) 10. Dubin (12) 11. Cruise (13) 12. Irwin (8) 13. Owings (10)
Jo. Kouba led early, before a lap two Owings spin collected Cruise and Dubin. Second place, S. Uttech, took advantage of the restart and took the point from Jo. Kouba before another Owings spin parked the 19K. The consolation went non-stop from there. Stefka pulled off the drive of the event, moving forward seven spots. Irwin pulled off on lap seven, Cruise did the same on lap nine.
A main (started): 1. Reinke (2) 2. Mitrisin (6) 3. St. Arnold (7) 4. Biertzer (5) 5. Haeni (14) 6. Davis (8) 7. Neitzel (9) 8. Antill (1) 9. Meyer (15) 10. Sernett (13) 11. D. Uttech (11) 12. Kertscher (3) 13. Jackson (4) 14. S. Uttech (19) 15. Ji. Kouba (21) 16. Mock (16) 17. Warren (12) 18. Bartz (17) 19. Johnson (23) 20. Stefka (20) 21. Wasmund (18) 22. Jo. Kouba (22) 23. Modjeski (10) 24. Hunt (24) DNS - Young
Young was a DNS and replaced by the first alternate, Hunt. Reinke hit the cushion and built a huge lead on the banked 4/10 mile track. He entered lapped traffic on lap four that was sometimes three and four wide. He managed to build almost a half a lap advantage by lap 12, when Bartz spun bringing out the first caution in the 25 lapper. Neitzel was able to repair a flat right rear under caution. Two lapped cars separated Reinke and second place Jackson. St. Arnold rode third, ahead of Antill, Mitrisin and Kertscher. Reinke shot out again, while St. Arnold captured the runner-up spot from Jackson. St. Arnold slowly ran down Reinke and got under him briefly in traffic on lap twenty. Reinke used some rubber on the high side of two to blow back past the 8s. It would be the last time he would be headed, despite a lap 24 caution for a stopped S. Uttech. Jackson hit the brakes when he saw the yellow and spun, surrendering his third place spot. Fifth running Kertscher also gave up his run when he changed a flat right rear. Reinke led St. Arnold, Mitrisin, Biertzer and Haeni back to the green, white, checkered finish. A deflating right rear tire victimized St. Arnold on the final two passes, and Mitrisin took advantage. The win was Reinke's second IRA triumph in his last two tries. Haeni earned hard-charger honors, moving forward nine spots.
Midgets
Heat one (started): 1. Brad Kuhn 74 (1) 2. Rik Forbes 95J (5) 3. Adam Clarke 13 (6) 4. Nathan Smee 99 (2) 5. Harley Slotten 87 (3) 6. Jason Dull 56 (4)
Kuhn led the distance with a new eight lap track record of 2:43. The last midget appearance at Farley was in 1980. Kuhn shot out to the high side and checked out. Clarke, Forbes and Smee battled three-wide throughout much of the heat.
Heat two (started): 1. Brandon Waelti 3 (1) 2. Boyd Calvert 19 (2) 3. Randy Koch 57K (3) 4. Steven Graham 31 (4) 5. Brian Terry 4 (5) 6. Buddy Luebke 43 (6)
Waelti led flag to flag. Calvert and Koch battled throughout for second.
Heat three (started): 1. Chad DeSelle 81 (3) 2. Aaron Fiscus 7 (6) 3. John Jones 21 (2) 4. Kurt Mayhew 21K (1) 5. Bob Shreffler 21s (4) 6. Scott Hatton 15 (5) 7. Jon LeJeune 34 (7)
DeSelle took the point early, but succombed to a speedy Hatton on lap two. Hatton's oil line gave on the white flag lap and he tried to hold on, but brought out a caution and went pitside, along with LeJeune. DeSelle inherited the lead over Jones, Mayhew, Fiscus and Shreffler. Fiscus took full advantage, passing Mayhew and Jones for the runner-up spot.
Dash (started): 1. Kuhn (6) 2. DeSelle (1) 3. Calvert (4) 4. Fiscus (2) 5. Forbes (3) 6. Waelti (5)
Kuhn hit the high banks and circled all five of his opponents before a lap could be completed. He dominated the four lap event.
A main (started): 1. Hatton (18) 2. Forbes (6) 3. Smee (10) 4. Graham (11) 5. Koch (2) 6. Waelti (8) 7. Fiscus (4) 8. Jones (1) 9. Mayhew (12) 10. Shreffler (15) 11. Luebke (17) 12. Dull (16) 13. Slotten (13) 14. Terry (14) 15. Kuhn (9) 16. DeSelle (7) 17. Calvert (5) 18. LeJeune (19) 19. Clarke (3)
Before a lap was in the books, Clarke was a victim of a battle for the lead and flipped it in turn four. The restart saw Koch lead from outside row one. Kuhn had the field covered all night, and went from ninth to the point by lap two. A stop by Dull on lap three slowed him down. Kuhn led Koch, Calvert, Forbes and Hatton, who had bonzaied from 18th to fifth in three laps. Kuhn shot out again and held a healthy advantage on lap eight of 25 when DeSelle stopped with a flat right rear tire. Now he led Koch, Hatton, Forbes and Calvert back to green. Two more laps were in the books before a caution was displayed for track debris. Now Hatton had moved to Kuhn's bumper, but a try on the low side on the restart came up empty. On the next go-around, Forbes executed a wicked slider on Koch for third. The result was Koch getting loose in the marbles and collecting Shreffler and Calvert, who was forced to retire. Forbes inherited third behind the leaders, followed by Fiscus and Smee. On lap 13, disaster struck for Kuhn when a fuel line connection problem surfaced and forced him to give up his advantage. Four laps later, it brought another caution. New leader Hatton led Forbes, Smee, Graham and Fiscus back to green. Despite a late charge by Koch from the tail to fifth, that is the way the top five would finish. Hatton won by a full straightaway.
