410s

Heat one (started): 1. Joey Montgomery D12 (2) 2. Chris Urish 83 (4) 3. Joey Moughan 2m (3) 4. Jerrod Hull 12 (8) / 5. AJ Bruns 44 (5) 6. Korey Weyant 99 (6) 7. Mike Deavers 72 (7) 8. Matt Dobey 4 (1) 9. Brett Samonds 47 (9)

Montgomery led the distance and won going away in Doc Sloan’s D12.  In a great battle, youngsters Urish and Moughan went toe to toe with Urish winning a photo finish drag to the stripe.  Hull also had to work hard to get by Bruns and executed a last lap pass for the final transfer spot.  The track was as heavy as I’ve seen it, and some of the locals were struggling with the bite.  Samonds bowed out on lap two after suffering motor problems all night.

Heat two (started): 1. Jeff Davis 33 (1) 2. Jeremy Standridge 10s (2) 3. Kaley Gharst 44G (6) 4. Kyle Cummins 3c (3) / 5. Jimmy Hurley 35 (7) 6. Jay Landolt 21s (5) 7. Mark Siciliano 86 (4) 8. Critter Malone 1c (9) 9. Lance Gullo 3G (8)

Davis led flag to flag.  Gharst looked strong in moving up through the pack.  The biggest struggle was for fifth, with Hurley edging Landolt by inches at the line.

Heat three (started):  1. Robbie Standridge 22 (2) 2. Bubb Altig 4c (1) 3. Ron Standridge 2s (5) 4. Bill Waite Jr. 3JR (3) / 5. Ryan Jamison 51J (7) 6. Steve Short 8 (6) 7. Babes Rouland 24 (8) 8. Justin Allgaier 2D (4)

Allgaier’s first ride in a sprint was bumpy to say the least.  A spin on the first lap sent him to the tail, and he avoided near disaster as he was on two wheels on more than one occasion on the heavy surface.  Jamison suffered a spin early as well, and ended up charging to one spot short of a transfer.  While Robbie Standridge left everyone in the dust, Altig, Ron Standridge (taking over for a fired Mike Hess in the Smith 2s) and Waite were duking it out for the runner-up spot the entire distance.

Heat four (started): 1. Alex Shanks 55B (1) 2. Brian Brown 50 (8) 3. Matt Sutton 3 (3) 4. Bobby Hawks 5H (2) / 5. Matt Rogerson 45 (7) 6. Chad Branson 3 (3) 7. Robert Bell 71 (5) 8. Terry Babb 88 (6)

Contact between Bell and Babb sent the two upside down into turn one before they could get started.  Babb would return for the B, but Bell parked it for the night.  Hawks jumped out to the early lead, but nearly lost it on the second circuit, losing a few spots in the process.  Shanks inherited the point and held off a determined Brown, this week’s driver in the DeReu 50.

Dash (started): 1. Montgomery (2) 2. Shanks (1) 3. Davis (4) 4. Robbie Standridge (3)

Montgomery led the distance of the four lapper that determined the A main lineup.

B main one (started):  1. Landolt (4) / 2. Bruns (1) 3. Weyant (3) 4. Deavers (5) 5. Malone (8) 6. Siciliano (6) 7. Dobey (7) 8. Hurley (2) DNS – Samonds, Gullo

With only the winner advancing to the A, Bruns jumped out to an early advantage.  On lap three, Landolt headed above the cushion to slingshot around second place Hurley, and the leader, Bruns.  Three laps later, Dobey spun bringing out a caution.  A second Dobey spin on lap 10, sidelined him.  Landolt held on for the transfer, while Hurley exited after banging the wall on lap 10.

B main two (started):  1. Babb (6) / 2. Rogerson (2) 3. Jamison (1) 4. Branson (4) 5. Roland (3) 6. Allgaier (5) DNS – Short, Bell

Allgaier’s wild initiation came to an end with a tip over on the first lap.  Rogerson led early over fellow Burlington area pilot, Jamison.  Babb was determined after his heat race incident, and began to apply pressure to the leaders.  On lap 10, he rocketed around Rogerson to lead the final circuits.

A main (started): 1. Hull (13) 2. Montgomery (1) 3. Robbie Standridge (4) 4. Shanks (2) 5. Babb (18) 6. Urish (5) 7. Moughan (9) 8. Sutton (12) 9. Davis (3) 10. Hawks (16) 11. Gharst (10) 12. J. Standridge (6) 13. Cummins (14) 14. Landolt (17) 15. Brown (8) 16. Altig (7) 17. Ron Standridge (11) 18. Waite (15)

When the green fell, Waite, Sutton and Ron Standridge came together down the frontstretch with Waite and Ron Standridge tipping over.  Only Sutton would continue.  Montgomery looked to be in command after a lap two pass of early leader Shanks.  J. Standridge spun on lap three bunching the field.  After Landolt spun on the restart, Montgomery led Shanks, Rob. Standridge, Urish and Davis.  Hull began picking off competitors, hanging out by the infield tires and sliding under his opponents.  Attrition claimed Altig, Brown (no brakes), Landolt and Cummins (with a flat) before a lap 18 spin for J. Standridge, who was escorted pitside.  Now Montgomery’s lead over Rob. Standridge, Shanks, a charging Hull and Urish was precarious.  With seven laps to go, Hull needed precision to get around Shanks and Rob. Standridge.  Moving into second with three to go, he slowly reeled in the leader.  After taking the white flag, he pulled a successful slider in turn two taking the popular win.  Despite Hull’s charge, Babb took hard-charger honors moving up 13 spots into the top five.

Midgets

Heat one (started): 1. Mike Hess 51 (4) 2. Brett Anderson 11 (2) 3. Brandon Waelti 7H (1) 4. Rik Forbes 95J (5) / 5. Greg Lueckert 01 (7) 6. Chad DeSelle 7D (8) 7. Derek Rossio 30x (3) 8. Mike Cray 88 (6) 9. Jay Mounce 12 (9) DNS – Kyle Wissmiller 121, Mario Marietta 120

Anderson jumped out to an early lead, while Hess went high above a ledge developing on the rough surface.  Without regard for staying safe down low Hess rocketed around Anderson on lap five going where no one else dared.  Behind him a blanket could have been thrown over second, third, fourth and fifth place.

Heat two (started): 1. Danny Stratton 2 (7) 2. Kevin Doty 50 (5) 3. Tim Siner 15 (6) 4. Donnie Lehmann 31 (8) / 5. Chad Branson 71 (1) 6. Korey Weyant 99 (2) 7. Mike Riley 05 (4) 8. Alex Coonan 81x (3) DNS - Tony Hill 45

Coonan flipped before a lap could be registered.  Riley also exited early.  Doty led and appeared on his way to victory.  Stratton took to the high side and pecked his way forward battling Doty, who had a tire going down, for the point and taking it on the final corner in exciting fashion.

Heat three (started): 1. Steve Knepper 55 (4) 2. Kenny Brown 17 (1) 3. Dave Camfield Jr. 86 (3) 4. Mike Heiss 00 (5) / 5. Steven Arnold 33A (9) 6. Luke Icke 2I (10) 7. Brad Kuhn 4AJ (12) 8. Mike Smith 43 (11) 9. Mark Bush 2D 10. Kevin Crowder 94c (7) 11. Rob Simpson 3 (6) 12. Mallory Armfield 5MA (2)

Knepper rolled by early leader Brown on lap two and checked out on the field.  Brown held off the challenges of Camfield Jr. and Heiss to take runner-up honors.

Heat four (started): 1. Rich Camfield 87 (6) 2. Hud Cone 5x (3) 3. Bubba Altig 67 (5) 4. David Gough 82 (7) / 5. Derrick Myers 25m (11) 6. Dean Erfurth 6 (9) 7. TJ Barber 5H (10) 8. Steve Stroud 21 (1) 9. Billy Wood 14AJ (2) 10. Craig Carey 5 (8) 11. Matt Sandy 16 (4)

Wood took the early lead before a lap two Erfurth spin. After Carey spun on the restart, Wood led R. Camfield, Cone and Stroud after Sandy also dropped out.  Under caution, Wood also went pitside handing the lead to R. Camfield who held on the rest of the way.  Stroud and Myers made contact on lap six bringing another caution and sending Stroud to his trailer.

B main one (started): 1. DeSelle (3) 2. Lueckert (1) 3. Branson (2) / 4. Cray (7) 5. Rossio (5) 6. Mounce (8) 7. Hill (6) 8. Riley (4) DNS – Weyant, Coonan, Marietta, Wissmiller

Lueckert shot out early, but DeSelle was too much and took the lead on the second go-around.  When Riley stopped on lap six bringing out a caution, DeSelle led Lueckert, Branson, Cray and Rossion and that’s the way they would finish.

B main two (started): 1. Icke (3) 2. Carey (14) 3. Erfurth (4) / 4. Sandy (12) 5. Meyers (2) 6. Bush (7) 7. Wood (10) 8. Arnold (1) 9. Stroud (8) 10. Crowder (9) 11. Simpson (11) 12. Barber (6) 13. Smith (5) DNS – Kuhn, Ärmfield

Arnold took the lead from Myers before Myers took it back a lap later.  Smith ended up on his lid on lap four bringing out the red flag.  Myers led Erfurth, Icke, Carey and Bush in what was sometimes three and four-wide action for the lead.  Icke took command after the restart, but it was Carey who charged forward twelve spots to put himself in the A main.

A main (started): 1. Knepper (4) 2. Siner (10) 3. R. Camfield (2) 4. Forbes (13) 5. Anderson (1) 6. Gough (16) 7. Waelti (9) 8. Cone (5) 9. Dave Camfield Jr. (11) 10. Lehmann (14) 11. Lueckert (19) 12. Branson (21) 13. Altig (12) 14. Heiss (15) 15. Erfurth (22) 16. Carey (20) 17. Brown (8) 18. Hess (7) 19. Doty (3) 20. DeSelle (17) 21. Stratton (6) 22. Icke (18)

R. Camfield led the field in strong fashion with Doty in tow.  On lap nine, Lehmann and Icke made contact, sending Lehmann upside down.  Ironically, he would be the one to restart at the tail while Icke went pitside.  R. Camfield led Doty, Knepper, Hess and Stratton who had a real battle going above the cushion and trading slide jobs.  Stratton’s fifth place run would end on lap twelve when he came to a stop.  Hess had overtaken Knepper by now and had set his sights on Doty who was running second.  Doty flipped two laps later and Hess stalled trying to avoid him.  Hess had to restart at the tail.  Now R. Camfield was still running strong, but Knepper had inherited second, followed by Siner, Forbes and Cone.  Knepper made his winning pass on lap 16 and held on despite one more caution for a spun Erfurth on lap 17.  Siner made a last corner pass to edge R. Camfield by mere feet, while Hess slowed after a charge back through the field.
