Scott Biertzer (20th car out to time) set quick time at 12.176 seconds on the 1/3-mile oval, just five-thousandths of a second off Ian Madsen’s track record set earlier this year.  Bill Rose (16th car out) was second quick, followed by Scott Neitzel (32nd), Parker Price-Miller (4th), Steve Meyer (18th), Jim Moughan Jr. (29th), Jeremy Schultz (12th), Bill Balog (26th), Scotty Thiel (19th) and Phillip Mock (8th).  Meyer’s motor shut down on his second lap and he scratched for the night.

Heat one (started): 1. Russell Borland 23 (1) 2. Biertzer 4B (6) 3. Moughan 99m (5) 4. Bill Wirth 53w (7) 5. Donovan Peterson 19 (3) / 6. Mock 1m (4) 7. Rick Kelsey 11K (2) DNS – Mike Decker 12

Mock spun before a lap could be completed.  Borland led the 10-lapper early over Kelsey, Biertzer and Moughan.  Kelsey would pull to the infield on lap six while running second.  Borland won by a straightaway.

Heat two (started): 1. Mike Reinke 02 (3) 2. Blake Nimee 79 (2) 3. Ben Schmidt 35 (4) 4. Wayne Modjeski 14AJ (1) 5. Schultz 5J (6) / 6. Rose 6 (6) 7. Josh Walter 12w (7) DNS – Doc Probst 1

Reinke shot under the front row to take the early lead and was out front the rest of the way.  Rose snagged the fifth and final transfer briefly on the first lap, but Schultz was able to drive back by and hold it the rest of the way.

Heat three (started): 1. Kris Spitz 4K (2) 2. Scott Uttech 7 (4) 3. Balog 2 (5) 4. Bryon Walters 5 (1) 5. Jason Johnson 44 (3) / 6. Matt Vandervere 10V (7) 7. Neitzel 2w (6) 8. Allen Hafford 38 (8)

Spitz led S. Uttech and Walters early.  Balog passed Neitzel, Johnson and Vandervere in one cushion move in turn four to go from sixth to third.  He would move by Walters on lap three for third.  Vandervere challenged for the fifth and final transfer, but came up tenths of a second short.

Heat four (started): 1. Jordan Goldesberry 65 (4) 2. Price-Miller 9P (6) 3. Dave Uttech 68 (1) 4. Kyle Marten 99 (3) 5. Thiel 64 (5) / 6. Jereme Schroeder 43 (2) 7. Dennis Spitz 41 (7) 8. John Fahl 0 (8)

Schroeder led early ahead of Goldesberry and D. Uttech.  At the halfway point, Price-Miller grabbed third from D. Uttech.  On lap six, Goldesberry slid in front of Schroeder for the lead.  Price-Miller followed a lap later.  By lap nine, D. Uttech, Martin and Thiel all found their way by Schroeder for the transfers.  The heats yielded little to hold onto on the bottom of the track.

B main (started): 1. Rose (1) 2. Neitzel (2) 3. Mock (3) 4. Vandervere (6) / 5. Walter (5) 6. Schroeder (4) 7. Hafford (9) 8. Fahl (10) 9. Probst (8) 10. D. Spitz (7) DNS – Kelsey, Decker

Rose led Neitzel and Mock the entire 12-lap distance.  Schroeder rode in fourth, until Vandervere found his way by for the final transfer on lap five.  One caution came out for D. Spitz, who came to a stop on lap ten.  Rose and Neitzel got their time spots back for finishing one-two.

Walters (20) 24. Balog (4)

A quick reworking of the track made for great two groove racing in the feature.  Heat winners and the six quickest qualifiers making it through their heats made the first five rows.  Biertzer drew an eight for the inversion.  That gave the pole to Reinke, who took the early lead in the 30-lapper over Goldesberry, Thiel and Balog.  On lap two, Balog snatched third from Thiel, while Price-Miller moved into the top five.  With three laps in the books, Balog pulled off with a broken rocker arm.  Reinke led Goldesberry, Thiel, Price-Miller and Schultz back to green.  Price-Miller was working well on the low side of one and two and shot by Thiel for third on the restart.  He would take second from Goldesberry on lap seven.  Reinke maneuvered well through traffic.  Schultz and Moughan were running fifth and sixth when they came together and spun with 17 laps in the books.  Reinke led Price-Miller, Goldesberry, Thiel and a surging Neitzel back to green.  The leaders were back in lapped traffic quickly.  Price-Miller had one shot at the leader and took advantage on lap 25.  Three laps later, the lapped car of Nimee got over the cushion when he was pressured by the leader and hit the wall.  Goldesberry lost oil pressure and pulled off while running fourth.  Price-Miller pulled away for his first IRA win on the green, white, checker finish.  He and the crew had about an hour of sleep after running the King’s Royal in Ohio Sunday morning.  It was Reinke’s second runner-up finish in a row having gone from 20th to second the previous weekend at the Dodge County Fairgrounds.  Mock was the hard-charger, advancing sixteen spots.

It was a tough night for Balog as he also took the lead on lap nine in the midget feature and looked to be headed to victory before mechanical problems surfaced.  Brandon Waelti won that feature for the first time in four years after a brief retirement.
